yes, when you do not have saliva your teeth get brittle and break off, you need a patient dentist and you need to have your teeth checked and fixed every 2 to 3 months

Yes, Flora, I had four teeth just crumble at the front, lower teeth. I now wear a small plate and luckily no other teeth have been lost. My GP got me into the Govt. dental scheme at the time which has now been discontinued. It's important to keep your mouth moist, sip water, use sugar free mints, gum, and as Beverly says see your dentist regularly. Try using the Biotene products, the mouthwash, toothpaste, gum and mouth gel.

Hi Flora,

having a dry mouth means there is no protection for your teeth as saliva does more than keep the mouth moist. I chew a sugarfree gum with xylotil in it as the chewing helps produce saliva and the xylotil has been proven to help prevent cavities. The gum is from Sweetlife. It helps to clean your teeth after eating especially anything sweet . If I can't I just swish with water . One thing I had a problem with in the beginning was oral candida. My gums were red and sore and ulcers on the tongue made eating very difficult. I used Kenalog for ulcers which made all the difference and Dr gave me a prescription for the candida. At the moment my mouth is okay as long as I look after it.

Hope things improve for you.

Hi. I lost all my teeth within two years of diagnosis despite using the high fluoride Duraphat products, mouthwashes, sprays etc. Unfortunately the teeth tend to become brittle and break as well as decaying so I needed a lot of maxillofacial surgery to remove the roots. I am still struggling to find a good dentist for dentures as the dryness makes them troublesome and six pairs of dentures later, they still cause pain. Please do everything you can for your teeth right from the start. Wishing you well.
