I take a drug called hydroxyurea for sickle cell. It's supposed to help my body make more fetal hemoglobin (the blood you make when you are a baby that doesn't sickle) to reduce or even stop crisis. I'm not on any specific kind of diet but green veggies are supposed to be good for us so I make sure I eat a veggie with every meal (except breakfast) oh and keep hydrated with water that has electrolytes in it. Oh and exercise. Exercising will keep a good blood flow and help reduce crisis. Even light exercises like walking, jogging, or jumping jacks.
Hi Matthias2015, hope you are well. Can only speak for myself as a teenager I was never regularly on any pain meds only when I was hospitalized and then it was usually Morphine injected into my IV. Now for many years I have been on Oxycodone for my more difficult pain at home and for my day to day pain Hydrocodone. Would imagine there are others such as myself that van tell when the pain is just going into what I call a holding pattern or going to go from zero to 10,000 in 60 seconds which seems ludicrous that I need to call to garner approval to go to the ER department before I can go wasting valuable time.
Blessings To You,
