Hi. I have raised CA125 in my blood sample taken. Dr booking me for an ultrasound. It’s hard not to think the worst. Has anyone had this and it not been ovarian cancer?

Yes it's hard not to worry but wait and see what happens with the ultrasound. Ca125 can be raised for other conditions too like endometriosis, wishing you all the best x

I'm assuming that you have not already been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and that they are trying to assess whether the rise in your CA125 is due to cancer. Is that correct?

How old are you (pre or post menopausal) and what was your CA125? Have you had a repeat CA125 taken? There are a number of things that can contribute to a rise in a CA125 besides ovarian cancer. As the other respondent commented, endometriosis is but one of those. If you are premenopausal , even your monthly cycle can cause your CA125 to fluctuate. A transvaginal ultrasound and a bimanual physical are the other two tests used in conjunction with a CA125 when considering if the rise might be caused by cancer.

Best wishes,

Gwen

Hi. I am 39. Yes you are right I have not been diagnosed. I went to dr with indigestion but also have not had a period and I am 22 month post partum now. (Breastfed for 19 months) He said it’s probably gastritis causing stomach pain but said I needed a blood test to make sure nothing else going on. Not sure what the actual level was he said higher than normal but not very high. I am going for an ultrasound in two weeks. Just hoping it’s not the worst case.

I'm keeping you in my thoughts. Hopefully, it isn't cancer, but if it is, know that we are here for you. Gwen

Hi. You need to realize that most people on this site have ovarian cancer so are unlikely to answer your question in the affirmative. I think you are lucky your doctor is so proactive because many women are fobbed off with diagnoses of IBS or other conditions and then their cancer is late stage when found. However I hope your CA 125 is raised for some minor inflammation and nothing to do with OC. I’m sending positive thoughts.
