I'm new here, gp thinks I may have either ovarian cancer or fibroids as she can feel a mass in my womb. Symptoms for a year to the point I am in constant pain and discomfort, very distended tummy, bleeding, back and leg pain, cramps.... bloodwork will b back tomorrow 13/8/20 and shes gonna phone me with the results. I'm 43 and a mummy, my youngest is 11 and autistic... I'm absolutely petrified of the results.
I thought you lovely ladies might be able to offer some support before I go insane with worry. From what I e read, ovarian cancer is pretty bad and one of the difficult ones to treat, so I'm hoping that's not the case and I can hear some positive news!
Lots of love to you all

Hi. It's difficult to know what to say to you at this point. I sincerely hope this is not OC, as your GP pointed out it could be fibroids, which although painful, I understand is treatable. Your GP does seem to be thorough and looking at all possibilities which, although worrying for you, is a positive move on their part. Yes OC can be "bad" but there are also so many success stories that I have heard on here. Many ladies have been in remission for a long time and some also have been living (and I mean living) a long time while keeping cancer managed and under control but that is a long way down the road, if at all for you. You are obviously worried for your young family as well as yourself and I can only imagine how you are feeling right now. I can only offer support and hope that the test results are the best possible outcome for you. Actually, I can see from the time if your post that you should be getting results if your tests shortly. Please do let us know how you got on. 🤗 Jackie
Thankyou for your reply Mumsie13, my gp phoned and said my ca125 were within normal range and has requested urgent pelvic scan, and tablets for very low folic acid... it's looking more like fibroids... could I just ask (as there is a palpable mass in my uterus) does oc definitely show up on a ca125? , I'm not doubting my doctor but I'm just nervous of false negatives.
I don't want cast doubts in your mind here but no it doesn't always. It is not always a definitive test. Normal results can be anything up to 35. I don't know if your GP gave you the actual numbers. They are not always that significant but it is what they are doing that is important - they can show that something is happening. What I have experienced and come across is that it can show up anomalies for a particular person, that is it can be an individual thing unique to that person. For example when my second occurrence was diagnosed my ca125 was just 30 and within normal range and didn't really indicate cancer but it had risen from 9 to 30 in three months, in my case significant. I also knew something wasn't right. I hope I haven't confused you but in my clumsy way I am saying we are all different and OC is not always easy to diagnose. It sounds as though your GP is not taking chances and has ordered a scan because, as you say, there is a palpable mass. Sounds as if your gp is in your corner and not taking anything for granted. It is sounding more like fibroids, which is bad enough, but let's hope that's all it is. Hoping the scan will provide some answers. Jackie x
Thankyou, no I understand you dont worry, it's a shame we cant all have a baseline reading of our healthy levels to go by. She dudbt give me the numbers but just that it was within normal range... anyway, I wont keep spamming you with messages, I may well be back with a definitive conclusion at some point in the next few weeks! It is reassuring tho that if it is oc I am not alone with it. Lots of love to you on your journey, and thanks for being lovely xxxx
"spam" away. If OC is going to be your journey it can all be very bewildering. If I can answer your questions/give you an informed answer I will. Really it's no bother. Jackie x
You have found us very early and you are very young to have OC but your GP seems to be on the ball. Sincerely hope you have fibroids which in itself isn’t very nice.
Scan results will tell you what is going on. We are always here to listen and help
Never worry about "spamming" us. We're all here for each other. It does sound like you have a doctor that is doing due diligence to determine whether ovarian cancer is a possible diagnosis. That's a really good thing even though it's scary. One of the many challenges with ovarian cancer is just getting that initial diagnosis right. With vague symptoms and no valid screening test, it makes it really difficult to identify when it does present.
Hang in there and spam away. Waiting for test results, doctor's appointments, finding out next steps contributes tremendously to our overall stress. And yes, ovarian caner is a serious illness, but you are a sample of one. Statistics don't apply to individuals . And what happens to you as an individual will be independent of what happens to a thousand other women. Wishing for you a conclusive result one way or the other in the very near future. And know that we are here for you. Best wishes, Gwen
