My grandmother has been battling the breast cancer for a number of years now. I've moved her in with me and my family this week. Her CA27.29 has more than doubled in the last month. Going from 1900 to 4000. She is almost 80 and is unsure if she wants to continue treatment. She did not fair well on ibrance. The doctor has recommended Xeloda if she wants to treat it. I was just looking for some insight on the jump or her markers and thoughts on Xeloda from others who have used it to help give her more insight to the treatment.

Caring for my grandmother with Mets Breast Cancer.
I’ve been on Xeloda for a year. I’m 61. The side effects are not horrendous. The main one is hand and foot syndrome. If she gets that side effect, she may want to watch her folic acid intake. I would say it’s worth a shot. My tumor markers came down pretty quickly after starting. They’re still high, but have come down 200 points. I am on a 7 days on, 7 days off regimen. I’m sorry for your grandmother.
Xeloda worked well for me but I was on a very low dose of 500mg x 3 a day. This was metronomic dosing which meant that I had no days off the Xeloda. Ask your onc he/she thinks the metronomic dosing will work for your grandma . With the low dose, I did not suffer any side effects.
I have no experience with Zeloda but want to say how much I admire you for giving your grandmother more love and life by taking her in and taking care of her. God bless you!
What a loving granddaughter you must be to offer care-giving on a daily basis in your own home! I admire your compassion, and hope your grandmother proves to be a patient receiver.
Regards,
Cindy
