Breast cancer metastasized to liver
I have some infrequent pain in the liver area but all of my blood work is normal. I have modified my diet and trying to eat (and drink) less items that could be bad for my liver.
Hello Ksfitz,
When a CT scan indicated that my breast cancer had metastasized to my liver, my oncologist scheduled me for an MRI and a liver biopsy. I can't remember how many liver mets were revealed by the MRI last spring, but the biopsy indicated that these liver mets were still ER+, HER2 neg. I believe if the biopsy had indicated HER2 positive, that might have meant a change in treatment strategy.
Despite the number of liver mets I have, my bloodwork ever since has indicated that all my liver enzymes are within their normal ranges. Until this changes, I don't think my treatment will be focused on my liver. My current treatment routine is letrozole and a targeted drug (Kisqali). I am hopeful that my next CT scan will indicate that most of my extensive mets (bones, lungs and other organs) have shrunk to some extent and my cancer markers are continuing their downward path.
The short answer to your question - it depends on the typing of your liver mets, and your liver enzymes as to what effect this may have on your treatment.
Warm wishes,
Cindy
I had a similar diagnosis two years ago. Following the first six months of chemo I was in remission and I now have infusions of perjeta (pertuzumab) and herceptin (trasruzumab) every three weeks. I get a CT scan and an echocardiogram every three months. The CT is to check if there is a return of the cancer and echo because the meds are hard on your heart. A few side effects include neuropathy, fatigue, insomnia.
