Hi everyone,

I'm so very sad to tell you that Marie died a couple of weeks ago. I met her in person a few weeks earlier at the Marsden in London where we were both being treated. We had tea at the Maggie's Centre there and chatted like old mates though we only knew each other through this site. I was humbled by her strength and appalled by the unfairness of it all; we realised we must have been diagnosed at around the same time but while I'm still on Palbo, line after line of treatment failed Marie. She had the grace and kindness to be interested in my health despite this cruel fact.

She leaves behind young children as well as an adult daughter (working a placement at Maggie's) and husband.

So very sad to hear this. I'm glad you shared your personal connection. It says so much about Marie that given her struggles with treatments, she was so generous in her concern for your health. Her story really got to me - leaving behind young children and struggling with failing treatments. I do remember one of her positive posts where she expressed a silver lining of COVID - she got to spend more time with her young children. She will be missed.

Breaks my heart when one of us loses the fight, the hardest part about being here and a reason I often think about quitting the board. I feel pretty peaceful most days about this journey but I am older and do not have children. I am praying for her and her family and for you. 😢🙏

I know, I felt the same about this last line of treatment. Marie was pretty resigned to it not being effective, unsurprising after all the disappointment and heartbreak, but I couldn't quite believe it wouldn't work. Just brutal.

Hello, GollyG,So very sorry to read of Marie’s passing. It makes my heart ache.

I’d like to reread Marie’s journey but have forgotten the moniker she used. Would you mind sharing that with all of us?

God bless you for letting us know. How lucky you were to have met her and to have shared some special moments. Thank you!

Hi Linda, Marie's moniker was Marieleb. All the best,

Gill

Thank you, Gill. Is your formal name Gillian? I read Marie’s posts to see if I recalled any communication with her. It made me feel weepy that I had never interacted with her. Seeing one of her children in the photo she posted led me to feel that Heaven was up behind this little guy and Marie is finally at peace.

Everyone’s journey is unique, but Marie’s was definitely filled with hurdles. I pray for her husband, her children, and all the loved ones who supported her during her valiant fight for life.

God bless you, Gill, for reaching out to this lovely woman.

I find it an amazing tribute to Marie that she could go to the Cafe with you and share her journey with you by wanting to know that yours was working out better. I find it a tribute to you also, and the power of surprise connections of comfort. In this often harsh road I am on, the resting places of loving connection with companion travelers has been a gift. Your example with Marie reminds me of that gift. I am grateful as was Marie that despite all the pain of Covidtime, that it gave her the gift of more time with her children.. And despite all the pain of Cancertime that it has given me deep friendships with others.

She leaves behind young children .... no words. God make this ugly thing somehow something “beautiful” in the story of her children. I pray the same for my very young children when it’s my time ... watch over our children and make them strong. Use this as part of their story to grow in strength and love — somehow. Amen.

Amen.. Indeed. Twith I found you beautiful in the story that you are writing of such love and care for another woman's children and your own. Thank you
