Why did they stop the hormone suppressors? I thought it was needed of your cancer is hormone based

I was a bit surprised she took me off them when she changed me to xeloda, although zoledex should still be in my system

Hi Tracey,

This doesn't surprise me. Hormone therapy helps keep premenopausal women like us in a state of chemical menopause while we are having this particular treatment. It's always been my understanding that if I stopped the zoladex injections my periods would also return. I couldn't start letrozole until my oestradiol level was low enough.

Will xeloda stop your periods again? I would discuss your concerns with your oncologist. I would be very worried about my periods returning, as I am ER/PR+ HER2-.

Let me know what your oncologist has to say. I’d be interested to know.

I’m looking into getting off the Zoladex as well...but I’m barely ER+ and have been on it 2 1/2 years and will be 50 in December...they took my hormone counts a few weeks ago and we will discuss next Wednesday...😀...I guess what I’m saying is there are servers factors in this...age would be one and ER status another...I’m only 10% and PR- 😀

I am 74 and take Letrozole/Ibrance. Had a hysterectomy in my 40's - before breast cancer the first time. No one has suggested that I not take it. Blessings Hannah

I took the choice to stop letrozole. I couldn't stand the side effects and research studies concluded it can extend survival by an average of 3 months in advanced breast cancer. It obviously wasn't helping to reduce the disease as I was progressing. I'm now on kadcyla and bone strengthener and the disease is halved in all places.

I think your right, I had a bit of dried blood discharge and haven't anything since so you could be right, hopefully gone through menopause now, will talk about it with my onc next time I speak to her, thanks for replying

Surgery and going off Ibrance and letrozole for a period of time after surgery

then be off Ibrance also. Which makes a total of 10 weeks off Ibrance since I think you have to take
