I'm new here, just curious I was prescribed Ibrance & am suppose to start next week. After reading most posts I get a feeling Ibrance is mainly for breast cancer (That's not the case with me). Does anyone know what food or vegetable fights cancer?

Welcome to this site ...as you have probably observed , it is mainly women with breast cancer, or their partner’s / family members who are looking for advice / support and all are welcomed . However men can get breast cancer and ibrance is available to those males too , but so far I haven’t been aware of any on this site / or maybe they are “non-active “members? I don’t know what type of cancer you have been prescribed ibrance for , as I thought it was for breast cancer (males and females) , but I hope it can help , as many of us on this site are doing well on it , and I wish you well . Take care .
Welcome! Regarding food, I think The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen has great information about cancer-fighting foods and foods to help with treatment side effects....also yummy recipes and great photos. Here's a link: rebeccakatz.com/the-cancer-...
I thought Ibrance was just for breast cancer too. Apparently not if that's not what you have. There's so much conflicting advice about foods isn't there. Personally, I feel it's more about getting your immune system in order to fight the cancer rather than the actual food doing the fighting but if I read something that sounds feasible, I'm always willing to try it. i eat mostly plant based but I'm not a vegetarian and do eat a bit of red meat, poultry and fish - mostly salmon and tuna - and I try not to eat any processed foods at all - bacon, sausage, processed cooked meats etc. I buy everything organic as much as possible. Lots of greens - brocolli, cabbage, spinach are good. Red berries (and other red/orange foods) are meant to be high in betacarotine and lycopene for fighting free radicals/prevent cancer cells spreading. Chia seeds are a very good supplement you can buy and they contain a lot of nutrients including omega 3 /resolvin which is meant to help fight cancer too - you can add them to soups, casseroles or even yogurts. They're tiny little seeds that don't really taste of anything much so you can add them to just about anything. Almonds and brazil nuts are high in selenium (boost immune system/reduce DNA cell damage). I don't know that any of this info is 100% valid, it's just things I've read and feel comfortable with.
I also do 16/8 fasting (don't eat for 16 hours/8 hour feeding window). I put a link on a while ago in one of my replies, I'll try and dig it out and post it on here for you. it explains the reasoning. Also if you google it there's plenty of info on there. Someone said their Oncologist was very much on board with that theory which is encouraging. The 16 hours can be done overnight, so if the last thing I eat is at 6 p.m. I wouldn't eat until 10 a.m. next morning. I always eat later than that which does make it harder the next day and a lot of people do 14/10 as it's more do-able and that's fine too.
A lot of ladies (and gents) drink only filtered water and to ward off many of the medication side effects, drink plenty of it. 4 litres per day if you can. I didn't at first and suffered terribly with mouth ulcers and a very sore nose. Other people have reported bad diarrhoea and other nasties until they started drinking enough so it's worth doing. 4L is hard though - I usually manage about 3L.
There's lots of supplements too that people take but I'm waiting until after my first scan next week so I can monitor what difference they make. I'm on my 4th cycle of Ibrance, Letrozole and Denosumab (or Xgeva in USA). I'll be introducing Turmeric, brewers yeast tablets and Cod Liver Oil to start with and take it from there.
Just a thought, most people on here do have metastatic breast cancer - that doesn't exclude anyone else of course, but I wonder if there's another board specifically aimed at whatever cancer you have. You may find other people on there who could be on Ibrance too - maybe give you a little peace of mind. Write your cancer type in the search box (top right) and you might find some more useful info on other pages too.
I hope all this helps. Very best wishes, take care. Josie x
Wow, I'm really impressed by your responses in such a short period of time.
Wasn't originally sure of what I can or cannot type here. I was diagnosed & operated on one year ago with Sarcoma soft tissue in the abdomen which had recurred & spread to the lung later on. I wasn't given any treatment then but being that it spread to the lung and they're classifying it as Stage 4 I'm being put on Ibrance. Once again I feel blessed here that I can talk & share information. Thank you all, G-d bless you all
Always feel free whatever you need to . We are here for each other! Thank God! I couldn't make it without this forum. The women here are the only people who really understand what mbc means in our life!
If you tap on the picture by our names, it will take you to the list of posts that each of us have written. Reading through some of those will give you a good idea of the myriad subjects we post about! It might even answer some questions you haven’t thought to ask yet! We,come to the best group you never wanted to be in!
I thought Ibrance was only for mbc but maybe it's being used for other diagnosis. If so, I wish you well.
As far as food goes, my nutritionist said a balanced diet is best. I am a vegetarian by choice. Have been for many years. I'm supplementig per my onc with vitamins D and B12.
Most vegetarians have a B12 deficiency. I was tested and that was my deficiency.
You may want to talk to your onc or primary care to test for deficiencies and go from there.
Thanks for your reply, bottom line is we all have to think good for it to be good. Everything in life , one way or another is fo0r the good, we just might not see it yet.
Welcome. I am quite new to this site too. Everyone here is very knowledgeable and extremely supportive.
My secondaries are lung and spine mainly, and I have felt a huge difference since being on Ibrance, with reduced symptoms.
I am slowly trying to eat a more balanced diet. The ladies here gave me tonnes of tips and helpful advice to set me on the right path. I am still very naughty with food, but I make up for it with exercise!!!!
A good book that I use is Eat to Beat Disease by William W. Li MD. Some other books are not straight forward about food. I had a lumpectomy 11 year ms ago then MBC was discovered last year. I am on Ibrance and Letrozole, which is a generic drug. Ask for the Letrozole made by Teva Pharmaceuticals. There is another brand made in India. I am doing better on the Teva brand as it has a different delivery system on my body.
Also if your Ibrance is sent by delivery service, request it be sent in a container with ice. If Ibrance gets too hot it needs to be replaced. I just had my prescription replaced as it was sent to me in a plastic bag and the interior of the truck can get up to 140 degrees. You can google this information.
Pfizer takes no responsibility for the way the meds are shipped.
And I live in Rochester NY. Not the warmest place, but hot in the truck.
