Treatment suspended

I just got in from dr. Had mri yesterday to find cause of the sciatica I have. The pain is hell. So nothing that can explain it- he wanted me to see neurologist or ortho but I said let me try physical therapy- if it doesn’t help then I will see neurologist. He agreed. He said no treatment and that scared me- he said he wants to read the films himself and see me in 2 weeks. His decision was based on the allergic reaction I have, the mri showed some progression on lumbar spine and now sciatica. I am dumbfounded because I just had pet scan July 5th that was stable. He gave me oxy/acetaminophen for the pain. This is the 2nd time an mri showed different findings than pet.

I don’t mind the break from treatment even though I can imagine the worst in my head. I am just so tired of all this shit with this damn disease. Right now I want my leg and butt to feel better. It’s already a month like this. I just want to scream😤😩. Thank you all for letting me rant n rave here.

♥️Frances

Oh I am so sorry!! I too have Sciatica and it is indeed on of the most painful things I’ve ever felt. Physical therapy is definitely the way to go. ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Frances.

Sorry to hear about you bout with sciatica. My dad had it a couple of times and he too said it was extremely painful. He would take hot showers, use heating pad and was put on pain meds. He did try acupuncture and it seemed to help somewhat. Maybe you can try that? Hoping the pain goes away very soon!

So sorry Frances. It does never seem to end does it? I have really bad pain sometimes in lt hip. Bone scans have been neg. go again in 2 weeks for scans. If it’s not cancer I will try to figure it out. Sometimes I wonder if long term use of Ibrance causes some of this pains we feel. I’d try acupuncture and deep tissue massage. Maybe an orthopedist would have a different approach. Hate this for all of us.

so sorry to hear about the sciatica, I had an issue with that a few years ago, I ended up going to message therapist and while that hurt it was one of those pains that feel good, hopefully you understand what I mean by that. I cried the whole way home because i still hurt walking, sitting....But the next morning I woke up and all the pain was gone. I had a couple of more visits and haven't had any problems with it since then.

Hi Francesca!

I’ve had a super scan to start with! About 14 bone mets! With that said the last ones to heal well are my hip pelvis ones...recently sold and bought a house so got real sore after filling up a dumpster with 18 years worth of stuff 🤣😂🤣 So on comes the sciatica in left leg with hip pain...the heating pad for 3 days and some Yoga 🧘‍♀️ stretches did the trick...so yea get some PT and a good massage or heating pad! 😀

So sorry for your pain! I suffer occasionally from sciatica on my left side where I have been waiting 4 months for a bone met to heal in my left pelvic bone at the hip socket. I have to be careful on what treatment I get on the left side since the bone met cracked the mid point of my acetabulum (hip socket). I use hot & cold pads & sometimes sleep with a tennis ball under my left bum. That seems to relieve the pain. I wish you quick relief! ❤️🙏❤️

Thanks- I need to make sure it is not another bone met.♥️

I am assuming any new pain is a bone met until a scan confirms it isn’t. My experience is that very few Oncologists are proactive. There are too many people, like me, who assumed the pain could be treated with traditional PT, Chiropractor, massage, etc. when those fail, the Oncologists request a scan.

Good luck in getting a scan to verify!

❤️🙏❤️

I am so sorry that you have Sciatica and that you are in so much pain. Best wishes for pain to disappear. Blessings, Hannah

Hi Frances,

I think it's a good idea to give physiotherapy a try before you see a neurologist. That might help. I gave it a try last year to help with sciatic pain I was experiencing (a couple of 1:1 sessions and then some group sessions with other patients). I was given a list of exercises to do as well, and then I incorporated going to the gym to the mix and now the pain is gone. So I think trying that first is definitely worth a shot. I hear you with the pain though. It is stressful and miserable dealing with pain that will not go away. Let us know how you get on with the physiotherapy.

as someone who just went through this I feel that I need to tell you what mine turned out to be so so hopefully to keep anything horrible from happening to you I thought I was having sciatica pain and it eventually led me to using a walker over the course of three months to the point I couldn't even bear it and just could barely make it to the bathroom I was taking ibuprofen to keep the swelling down well I ended up debilitated in u-dub medical center and found out that I had huge tumor in my pelvis cavity it was causing all of that so please hurry and get that checked out you can go to your hospital and get that taken care of have them scan in the pelvis to make sure they did the pinpoint radiation which relieved everything immediately the swelling went away. I went thru six months of agony!!! I've been feeling fine until I started ibrance but that's only another story please keep in contact prayers for you!

Yes been thinking same thing. Missed the mark with mri of lower spine. It’s the pelvic bone. I am calling my radiation oncologist tomorrow. I refuse to not have an answer. Thanks for your response♥️Frances

Its unbelievably painful as you know. I just started thinking before I let someone work on that area I need to be sure it is not another bone met as I have many to begin with. Ugh!

Thank you ♥️♥️

Same here! Tired of it all! Had MRI this morning after PET last week. Pain in knee is horrendous. Waiting for call back from Ortho. Trying not to give up!

Francesca10 profile image

That would be good sense right? No only lumbar sacral spine was done. I am a nurse but as a patient the healthcare industry plain sucks. I called radiation oncologist early this morning- no call back yet. I am fighting with my oncologists office because the np did the PT referral and put left rib pain. She is refusing to change it. I am so angry about all this.

I see my Pcp tomorrow. Hopefully his brain is firing in all thrusters!?

Hi Frances

Just wondering how your sciatic pain is going?

Have you started therapy, and is it helping?

🙂 Clare

Yes started therapy last week and it is helping. Thank you for asking. All findings say it was the faslodex injection that hit the nerve?!

Barb5 profile image

Are you on Faslodex injections by any chance? I ask because if the needle is injected wrong it can cause sciatica problems from what I have read.

Francesca10 profile image

Was in them. I know about that and it looks like sciatic nerve got hit. Thanks for asking♥️
