Walking in the night.

By chance I found the oddest way of walking off RLS.

I was given an old hospital screen, and decided to cover it with pretty material, so I pinned the fabric tightly into place over the frame. But when I tried to sew I couldn't stitch normally, it was too tight, so I had to push the needle in and walk completely round the screen to pull it out the other side again. For every stitch.

So every night I threaded a needle before I went to bed, and when I was woken by RLS an hour or so later, I walked like a zombie round and round the screen, pushing in the needle and pulling it out the other side. When I'd used all the thread in the needle, I would go back to bed to try again to sleep.

The screen is finished now and looks great.

But I really do need another screen to cover.

ROFL...thanx I needed a laff. just gave up trying to fall asleep, came down to puter and can feel like Im not the only one. It does help. Not that misery loves company or does it? I guess I didn't take enough iron today or ate gluton or did something else that is normal for most people. oh well...I count my blessings, go sit in my massage chair(which does help btw) and then if I still cant go to sleep, I will sneak onto EBAY. Ebay is a great screen but it costs money. Hugs to all

Tent making's the way to go; either that or a treadmill with a television screen in front of it. Don't laugh, I've seriously considered something along those lines.

Treadmill and tv is a good idea...I've got a question on here somewhere about those old fashioned fat wobbly machines. I bought a more modern one and it helps. I can stand and watch tv and it eases my rls in my pelvis and legs. The vibration seems to override it for a while.

I know what you mean!! I spend the night walking round and round the house, I'm still convinced that if you get out of bed and do something, your mind is taken off the anxiety you start to feel at the onset of RLS, and of course the anxiety makes it worse.

That is absolutely hysterical! Don't know if I should laugh or cry. I have visions of mass produced screens. Excellent productive way to make excellent use of those aggravating times. Before I even knew what it was & got meds, I stripped my kitchen cabinets & tiled the counters one sleepless night at a time.

will you be taking orders for these screens, i could forward my colour scheme to you Cathys

My RLS is never a problem during the day nor when exercising. I am aware sometimes of the 'dragging' feeling whilst sitting but it is ONLY at night when I lay down that it 'starts' - <growls>.

I admire anyone who can sew: my needlework report stated "her tongue works faster than her needle" LOL! ;-).

Distraction is always some help. ;)

I like your comment patchworker, you are a person the same as myself, except I do not not patchwork, I just walk up and down the stairs quite a few times and then my legs seem to settle down for a while. I sometimes find that if I exercise them the rls seems to dissapate, and other times I have to head for the Ripinirol, but I have varying strengths to take and if by day, I take just 1mg and it seems to take away the immediate nuisance level, and I can get on again for a while.I do find that if I keep moving it helps, I do think that my severe back problem does'nt help my rls, but heyho, stress does'nt either, or being tired, or just feeling as thought I have NO time to myself, but if I try and sit down and read for a few mins, off I go again.

I should be like a stick insect with all the walking up and down I do, but no so! I am beginning to think I have to take literally every minute as it comes, and go with the flow! There does'nt seem to be any one thing or another or meds that works for is suffers of rls. I am hoping one day to read on this site, that someone has got a miracle cure, and I am sure we will all be trying it. Glad you have finished your screen, now you are looking for something else to do, you wll have start up a business, Renovating Screens!! You will have to name your company RLS - well you have the Renovating and Screens, it could well take off, excuse my sense of humour. Hope you get on ok. Widgeylegs
