Hi Jean - Am I right in thinking from your various comments you came off roprinole onto pramipexole as I'm wondering if it will make a difference to me.

Currently on 3mg roprinole with classic augmentation and starting tomorrow on 88mg base (125mg tablet) of pramipexole

Simon - Halifax, West Yorkshire

no, i had ropinerole first, then the neupro patch, now mirapexin slow release

in reply to

Niah, Please tell me how that Mirapxin slow release

is going. It will be discussed for me early in Sept

with my Rhumy.

Like you and others, I have nervous legs that go

into the daytime from time to time. It's very unpredictable

for me.

Also thanks for the blood test suggestions to everyone

on here. I haven't been tested so much except to know

that my blood's red cells are at 9.1. . I know that's quite

low for a woman my age. 45. I was told to take iron

tablets and the success of that hasn't been moving

so quickly. I know that it takes 8 weeks to totally turn

over new blood to have the iron tablet works show.

I was told that by my Rhumy.

hi, well we are all different with meds, but for me this is the best med ive had so far, does make me sleepy, but thats about an hour after i take it, so ideal for me to take around 10-11 at night, and i sleep well, unless ive overdone things or, if im a bit stressed about something, and it also seems to be working for a longer period of time for me

Hi Jean did you put a lot on? Do you find it's because you are hungrier so eating more or do you eat roughly the same?

in reply to

well, i tried to keep to my normal diet and i did, but i would get the munchies early evening, and its hard not to eat when you feel hungry, but now, im trying to make a bit more effort and shopping more carefull, and i keep a bowl of salad in the fridge most of the time, so i can dip in it when the munchies attack. but i did put a stone on, and now ive lost a couple of pounds, so slowly slowly .

Just been prescribed pramipexole by GP today as getting 'Augmentation' on 3mg roprinole

Start the pramipexole tomorrow so will be watching the weight closely!!

Just noticed on Jeans post that mirapexin is pramipexole which is useful as I thought it was a different drug which makes me think it would be worth listing all the seperate drugs and the various tradenames they come under as its very confusing at first!!

Hiya it can be very confusing! I'm a pharmacy technician and have had endless complaints from patients accusing me of giving them the wrong meds! It is much easier when the drug companies lose their patent and everyone can sell them!! Can you keep me posted on the weight changes? I hope you get on well with them :)

I've been on Premipexole for 15 weeks. I have gained 10 pounds eating

the same exact way that I have been. I feel tired an hour after I take it.

I noticed on the manufacturer's site that it says to drink a Full 8 oz of

water when you take it. For me, that was the difference. The meds

were NOT kicking in well whenever I failed to do that. I drank it quickly

and for me, that was key. Also, I didn't mix it with food. (yes, tummy did

fuss)

I have been on Premipexole for 4 months and have had no real change in my weight, apart from normal fluctuations. This is the first med I have been prescribed, and have very slowly gone up to a1mg a day. At first I was very nauseas and each time the dosage went up this happened, but I soon settled down. Perhaps I have just been lucky?

Cazx

Hi Caz interesting to hear I know some people lose weight on them too but as yet nobody on here has commented to that effect. Are you finding them effective in treating RLS?

mirapexin works very well for me

Another reason for wright gain is the fact that we are always tired and the body is hunting for food for energy. Ropinerole also can cause compulsive behavior and unfortunatly for me that is the need to eat. Have controlled it a bit so weight is back to normal (fat not obese!!!!!!!!!). hope you all have a good day.

in reply tocefndaniel

You know it girl. I graze all night sometimes eating foods that

take no prep and are not very good for me.

I changed that to eating high fiber cereals and have an assortment

of fruits, veggies and low cal, low fat dip.

My belly isn't used to such a sharp change but the extra pounds

are getting unhealthy. It's hard enough dragging my butt around

after no sleep.

Good effort cethdaniel. Hunt for healthy food at night. =)

No weight gain at all on his medication and it works well for me, not 100% perfect but very close.

your just the exception to the rule :P

You are Really a funny guy in a good way. I went to that

website that you pointed out and warned us of that it may

be offensive to some.

I was laughing my head off. Never in my life have I known of

so many that were very upfront and honest, candid in explaining

what and how they reach orgasm...

I've been told by the medical profession that Orgasm can solve

a lot of pain issues and will calm the body down.

I will never admit or suggest that I do such things. I am an old

lady of age 45. haha. But I did laugh hard at it and thank you.

I didnt gain weight either when i was using pramipexole.

well your just a show off petal :P

hello niah 177, I do not weigh myself but went up 2 dress sizes on pramipexole stopped pram. had a break of some months , lost weight started ropinarole and same again. My hunger is insatiable and I am able to eat amounts of food I would not normally be able to consume and although eating such vast amounts I never feel full nor do I ever get an upset stomach. I joke with my practise nurse that dopamine maximises our compulsions and while some people become gamblers and sex addicts I am so boring all I do is overeat and become a shopaholic.

snap !! :)

I always thought that my weight gain was partly because I might be up at 3am ironing and I'd get hungry and have some cereal. I'd then be up to do the school run in the morning and have toast so I was having two breakfasts. Also thought it was because I was low from being tired and comfort eating and drinking (especially wine and nibbles early evening!). Perhaps it's not just about me being greedy!

in reply toTiredparent

certainly isnt :)

I experienced weight gain when I started pramipexole some years ago but I believe it to be due to increased appetite and not due to eating the same amount.. I am trying to lose weight at the moment .

Same here, started ropinirole last summer gained a dress size and a credit card, horrid augmentation so swapped to pramipexole and desperately trying not to increase my dose but haven't lost much weight and struggling the urge to go to the kitchen cupboard right now. Also gained a second credit card. Sigh...

I was on ropinerole and it is documented on the side affects about how it can make you gamble etc. Some one I know took it for Parkinsons and kept having spending periods but they actually lost weight. Symptoms earlier than normal is horrid. I have symptoms all of the time but always worst in the evening. Peterk

Minus 5 comments?? Whyy?

I did try this medication. It actually caused the opposite, weight loss, and had serious side affects for me which had to be treated in hospital. Ropinerole did the same and mirapexin. Whilst what they did is documented in the side affects, it was a loss of a treatment that did actually work on the sensory symptoms ( ropinerole)

.

Hi, I have been on mirapexin for 2 and a half years and and put on 2 stone. Have struggled with augmentation for a long time and finally decided to come off it on Friday. I am climbing the walls. Anyone know how long the withdrawal symptoms last. This is much worse than my origianal restless legs.
