Checking anything else you take is effecting your RLS meds.

Just wanted to say, check any other medication you are taking to see if it is interferring with your RLS medication. that includes OTC medication. Alot of other medications can make the RLS worse, even if you are taking meds. for your RLS. I have seen posts where some people have been given anti-depression meds along with their RLS meds. Most anti-d's will make RLS go nuts. Also OTC cold and cough meds. can make things worse, antihistamines are usually a no no for us...

Keep yourselves informed, it might just be whats stopping your RLS meds from working and keeping you awake...

I was diagnosed by the sleep consultant just last week. He put me on ropinirole having asked me what other medication I am on. I have been on anti-depressants for a couple of years. I now feel worse than I did pre-diagnosis, tire easily, and my hip joints and leg muscles ache and burn even more than before. Plus, I slept really well before, and now I wake early in pain and have to get up and move around. Should I persevere with the ropinirole?

Hi, can i ask what anti-depressant you are taking...? Most anti-d's will make your RLS worse even though you are taking Ropinerole. But if you have already been on the anti-d's for a couple of years already then i am surprised that your RLS hasnt been bad before,,,you slept really well...so that is a bit of a puzzle as RLS keeps most of us awake through the night if we dont take meds for it....

That is the basic problem - I always slept well but awoke absolutely knackered. My muscles tighten up at rest and in the morning I am woken by pain. Getting out of bed is the only means of easing the discomfort. I have been on Sertraline for a couple of years. In addition my GP has put me on an anti-inflammatory for the joint pain (Meloxicam) and I am on Levothyroxine because my thyroid is sluggish. I am still tired and sore, and struggling to concentrate at work which is causing problems. The new meds seem to have made things worse. I got my diagnosis last week after an overnight sleep test. I believe I have fibromyalgia. I don't really care about the label. I just want to feel better.

Ok, i am not an expert, but if you are sleeping well, but waking up shattered, then it doesnt sound like RLS, but sounds like PLMD. Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. That happens when you are asleep, it means you are kicking around when asleep but you dont know it....and when you wake you are tired as if you havent slept at all. A sleep test will show you are kicking while asleep, it doesnt test for RLS, because there isnt a test for RLS, only symptoms which stop you sleeping because you have sensations in your legs or arms or other parts of your body, your legs will jump whether you want them to or not...it will keep you awake and the only relief usually is to get up and walk... I cant comment on your other ailments as i havent any experience of them. I can only suggest you do some research on your other ailments to see what meds are used. I know fibro i think is helped with pain killers or nerve pain meds such as Gapapentin... Sorry i cant be more helpful to you, i know you want to feel better. I guess last resort is to go back to your doctor and explain how you are still feeling...

Thanks for this. I was diagnosed by a sleep specialist. I agree with what you are saying. I don't have any daytime twitching. I do seize up when I sit or stand in one place for any length of time, and I wake up sore and need to move. I am beyond caring what any "syndrome" I may have - I just want a resolution. Thanks for your help x.
