I seem to remember a conversation about this recently, so I'm posting this bit of research.
Apologies if I've crossed some wires.

Curious formulation of Berberine. Apparently it is combined with a salt (berberine ursodeoxycholate, an ionic salt of berberine and ursodeoxycholic acid). It is used to treat a diabetic liver complication called NASH.
"Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a necroinflammatory disease of the liver which may lead to fibrosis and possible progression to cirrhosis. NASH is often associated with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia1 and is often complicated by an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular events in addition to progressive liver disease."
This study does confirm the ability of Berberine to lower Cholesterol in addition to assuaging the NASH liver disorder. However, I would use a different formulation of Berberine for cholesterol control.
Thanks for posting Madlegs. I believe the consensus is that berberine exacerbates restless legs. Happy to hear of exceptions to that, and hen I might be inclined to try it for SIBO.
In general, it doesn't exacerbate RLS. Of course all of us react differently to medicines and supplements and there have been people for whom it does seem to make RLS worse.
Several animal studies show that berberine increases dopamine levels and may help fight depression and anxiety - more research is needed to determine if it increases dopamine levels in humans
