Holiday abroad (Majorca) and no symptoms

Hi,

This is very odd.

I hardly go abroad and this was on my bucket list.

Since here no periodic limp movement, rls to a minimum, even forgotten to take my Pergabalin. I do snore a lot but sleep through it.

Any ideas why!

I do swim every day and read books.

Main meal is breakfast and I drink a lot of water.

It's a blessing to get a few nights of proper relaxing deep sleep :) different quality of life!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

That is strange. I have no idea why. But enjoy it.

Just a thought and something to think about.

Maybe you are producing more dopamine while on a fun vacation? Just guessing.

Lower stress levels might be a factor!

Also has there been any change in your diet?

Something that you always have at home, but not having on holiday?

Will be interesting if it returns with the trip home?

Keep in touch!😍

Bread maybe. There are lots more power cables on houses in the UK. I have noticed electric power plus RLS are related. Stress is super high. Partner has had a big row on the streets of Palma on yesterday and apparently he has to sleep in the bathtub because I am snoring all night. Definitely not that!

On top of that my mobile got stolen. :) Nightmare holiday!!!

Might be the swimming in the pool?

RLS is such a tricky disease.

Could you be walking more, too? (I walk a lot more when I travel, not that it alleviates the RLS . . . ). I'm sorry about your mobile getting stolen, though. I hope you get it back.

I have also experienced this while on holiday in both Spain and Florida, before I started medication for RLS. I have absolutely no idea why either. Comforting to read this has happened to someone else. X

I am trying to figure this out. How many Spanish suffer from RLS, I wonder. May consider moving here, πŸ˜‚

Exercise early in the day, fewer carbs and eating earlier in the day are all normally good for RLS. Glad you got some good sleep.

I eat early at home, too. 7.30 a.m. before work but rushing it. Main meal earlier, definitely has an impact.

I am a Christian, so get more prayer, medication and reading time. Always helpful. There must be something else. Will take pics of my food tomorrow and "copy" when back in the UK.

I notice that when I'm on holiday in Thailand I tend to slept better and hardly any restless legs. Maybe swimming helps or sunshine, or less stress? It always comes back when I get home.

Spitball theory here.

Bad bouts of RLS can be very traumatic. We remember them on both a conscious and subconscious level. These bouts are repeated over and over again in the same place , our bed our house. So when we go to sleep it's like returning to the scene of the crime every night.

Sleeping someplace new or different may remove some of the subconscious triggers related to previous events where we normally sleep. The new location may prevent mild symptoms from flaring up into full blown "here we go again events".

Anyways, I find the phsycological aspect of RLS very interesting.

Enjoy the time away.

I agree. I have also slept better recently during travels to Brussels. No sunchine, no healthy mediterranean diet, probably more active as I walked everywhere on most days but nothing really significantly different.

On the other hand, there is certainly a sort of aprehension getting back home, where I suffer so much because of the lack of sleep. My place, and bedroom are for sure associated with some negative energies...

And sure enough, I have relapsed with a mix of RLS and insomnia

Did you do any swimming on your holiday? Just a thought πŸ€”

No. Maybe more walking. Maybe it was loneliness as most of my youth friends are there

Swimming! I read a study comparing walking, running and swimming as primary fitness activity. Lifelong swimmers lived 10 full years longer! "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper" is probably good advice. I do think just what we eat at dinner has a profound effect of sleep. I might well be a very low glycemic index dinner - slower release of glucose enhances good sleep.

I spent the summer on Crete. Swimming every single day unfortunately does nothing to help my legs

Hi, are you back from your holidays? Can you update your progress?

As for swimming helping, could it be because you have a pinched spinal nerve?

Swimming decompresses the pinched spinal nerve which leads to low/no rls/plmd.

Just a wild theory but it's comforting to find out these monsters can go away sometimes.

Hi, yes! Just got back from the holiday. Last 2 nights I kicked. Anxious about the trip.

My partner was getting fed up with my snoring and held/punched me. I apparently started to kick. I have to point out that I am in a bad relationship and had some very hefty "discussions" on the holiday.

He reckons as soon as he let me go, the snoring was back. Kicked when he was holding me tight. I hate anything tight and that causes anxiety on its own.

Hope, above is helpful!

Will report how I sleep tonight, now that I am back.

I have had similar experience. At home I only use diet to control the RLS. When I have been travelling in THailand, Singapore, South Korea I decided to enjoy the local food and suffer in silence. I enjoyed but didn't suffer. I put it down to the asian diet but I ate onion and garlic as well as almost everything else and my RLS stayed at home. Now home if I stray from my very restrictive diet I can be awake all night. If I have been strict with my diet I now usually only lose sleep for a couple of hours on one night. In the bad old days I had no sleep until about 5am but now I tend to get an hours sleep the stay awake until 4am and sleep to 8am or a bit later. I can't see any logic in this. Nowadays I don't hjave to walk around anymore but after sitting awake with RLS all of a sudden I can feel the RLS go away and I know that I can go back to bed and sleep. Life is better when I follow the diet and sleep through the night.

Could you please share what your diet consists of that is helpful in reducing your RLS. Kind regards Julie from Western Australia

Hi Moonwalker,Did you wear different shoes?

I have found I can't wear normal shoes any more as they all have a heel and squash my toes. I've gone over to barefoot shoes and I've found so much relief! No one has ever told me it could be my feet!

It only took me 50 years. Keep searching.

I wore my new Skechers. However wore those in the UK, too and suffered from RLS. Nice thought.

Newfeet profile image

There are so many causes of this wretched syndrome. If I sit badly, i.e. with my feet and back unsupported I suffer.

Newfeet profile image
Newfeetβ€’ in reply toNewfeet

Just thinking maybe you spent a lot of time barefoot or in flipflops, which would have created the same experience as barefoot shoes.

Moonwalker1967 profile image
Moonwalker1967β€’ in reply toNewfeet

Yes, was in my Adidas sliders and Skechers a lot. Walked along the seafront without shoes on too.

Newfeet profile image
Newfeetβ€’ in reply toMoonwalker1967

Perhaps wearing sliders and no shoes helped. I guess it might be worth giving it a try at home to see if it works.
