withdrawal from Ropinerole

My withdrawal symptoms when I stopped taking Ropinerole were hot flashes, sweats, anxiety, shaking, head pressure and brain fog. It is a month since I stopped and still have these symptoms, although they are not as bad. Anyone have these types of symptoms and if so, how long did they last. I took .25 mg for a week and a half for RLS and then stopped.

Are you taking any other medicines or OTC supplements?

Am taking lot of other meds. Do you know other meds that would cause these symptoms?

SueJohnson profile image
SueJohnson in reply toQuinlan12

If youn list them I can possibly tell you.

in reply toSueJohnson

amlodapine, Tramadol, nortryptaline, lorazepam, xeralto, levothyroxine, ezetimibe and a cancer drug. I have not gotten off any of these, but the Tramadol and the ezetimine are the newest. I started them a couple of months or so ago.

Quinlan 1 and 12 are the same person. I messed up.

None of them would cause the symptoms you are experiencing. Any OTC supplements?

I wonder what ratio of mg you came down from and how fast you weaned off Ropinerole?

in reply toKatyparis

I took .25 mg for maybe two weeks and then stopped the Ropinerole. I was off of it for about2 week with the withdrawals and then took one pill because I hadn’t slept for several nights. Then I stopped again and have been dealing with the withdrawals since.

in reply toSueJohnson

I also recently started iron and magnesium after I got the symptoms

Those are fine too. I am stumped.

in reply toSueJohnson

a week ago I took a Rapinerole. Within a half hour or so I had a hot flash. The next morning the symptoms were gone. I haven’t taken any more since and the symptoms came back in full force. Any ideas on who I could get help from with this?

Ah, by taking one again, you probably started the withdrawal up again. You are apparently very sensitive to it since as Joolsg mentioned taking it for a week at that low a dose doesn't normally cause withdrawal symptoms. They can take several weeks or more to stop.

in reply toSueJohnson

thanks for trying to help.

in reply to

what do you think about Tramadol

SueJohnson profile image
SueJohnson in reply to

It works for many. The only problem is it is the only one that can cause augmentation.

in reply toSueJohnson

I’m already taking it. I just wondered if you think it could be causing these side effects. I take 25mg

SueJohnson in reply to

I guess it is possible.

Joolsg profile image

That is unusual. A week on the lowest possible dose doesn't normally cause withdrawal symptoms. Have you had Covid recently? Were you on Pramipexole before Ropinirole?

No Covid. No Pramipexole.

You are not suffering withdrawal from Ropinerol.

Whatever else you may be reacting to.

Please list all your medications- dose and length of time on it.

A lot of medicine can cause RLS ,or withdrawal symptoms when they are stopped.

Hope you feel better soon.

in reply toMadlegs1

the only drug I’ve stopped taking is Ropinerole.

in reply to

I somehow messed up my name. Quinlan 12 and 1 are the same person.

levothyroxine 88mcg years on it. Amlodapine 5mg several years, nortryptaline 10 mg years on it. Lorazepam .5 mpg. Years on it. Tramadol 25 mg 4 months on it, Ezetimibe 10mg6 months on it. Xeralto 20 mg several years, cancer drug 8 years

Thanks. I'll let Sue take that on if she has time.👍

could you be augmenting or reacting to tramadol? That does lead to severe symptoms I think and you have only been on it 4 months - D

Tramadol made my rls symptoms worse too. Worked for about 5 weeks then rls came back worse than ever

in reply toDrls

I don’t believe I am augmenting. My iron was low so I am now taking iron and magnesium at night and wake up a couple of times with RLS. Walking and massaging my legs and feet help. I took the Tramadol for over 20 years and then about a year ago a doctor refused to refill my prescription and I was off Tramadol for about six months and another doctor decided it was ok for me to take the Tramadol.

I see nortryptaline on your list - I thought that made RLS worse?

in reply toAmyMac5

I’ve been taking nortryptaline for over 20 years for chronic pain and never considered that it could be causing RLS.

Dr Buchfuhrer who is an expert on RLS said it is fairly safe.

Thanks Sue, I'd always thought it was similar to amitriptyline in making RLS worse.

a week and a half! I was on a DA for 10 years & withdrew over 4 weeks ( too quickly I think now). Had night sweats, panic attacks, anxiety, agitation, suicidal ideation, listlessness, depression & sleeplessness as well as the exaggerated symptoms of RLS. Never want to go through that again. Not one clinician warned me or told me what to expect. Have recovered, no thanks to the medical profession or drug companies. This group was helpful as was the FB RLS group. I wish you well & hope your recovery is quicker than mine.

in reply toNightwalker6

oh my gosh. That sounds terrible. Glad you made it through.

I reduced Ropinerol for over a year, it never stopped the horrible sensations even after 6 month’s finished. It was only Methadone that reduced the cramping and a little the crawling so that I could cope with everyday life. Methadone has given me some sort of life after 7-8 years. I’ve had 2 strokes the last one a year ago and numerous odd episodes unexplained, thinking I was a gonna. I’m with you, prayers sending to all of our fellow sufferers. God bless XXXX

The severity and length of time for the withdrawal symptoms are idiopathic. The best way to avoid the insane torture of withdrawing from the dopamine agonists is to use a compounding pharmacy and withdraw from the drugs using a micro taper which would take many months or even years depending on your dose.
