Switching from Gabapentin to pregabalin, useful advice please…

Hey everyone,

I got some great advice last fall about switching from ropinerole to Gabapentin. I’ve been having difficulty taking my split dose pills at different times, mostly due to my 12 hour shifts and 5 kids. My doctor indicated that I could try pregabalin when I meet with her this week. My questions for all of you are these.

What is your experience with switching from 1200mg Gabapentin to 200 mg pregabalin? (I’m assuming this will be the dose she puts me on)

How many hours before bed should I take pregabalin? (I’ve looked at previous posts but they seem to mention mostly specific times, vs distance to bedtime.)

Can I switch over immediately or do I need to wean off of Gabapentin slowly then ramp up the pregabalin? Or should I take both and quickly wean down the Gabapentin?

I know my doctor will probably give me some advice regarding this, but I get the feeling she knows very little about RLS and how to coach her patients. I think my experience with her is teaching her a lot and I’m grateful she is open to the things I say.

You can switch directly over to the pregabalin. No need to wean off gabapentin. I have done this and as a matter of fact will be doing it tonight because it would be inconvenient to take them in more than 1 dose as a result of what I am doing tonight and tomorrow will switch back. Take it 1 to 2 hours before bedtime.

hello, I am on 300 mg of gabapentin and trazodone at night for RLS. It is working fine.

I have been told to take Pregablin just before bed, it’s not working as a sleep aid so I’m wondering if I take it at the right time.
