I thought I’d share several articles that give, as far as I can tell, the best, evidence-based guidance for RLS and PLMD treatment + augmentation info. which can all be invaluable tools for understanding RLS, PLMD and augmentation. Note some of the authors names.

1) Guidelines for the first-line treatment of restless legs syndrome/Willis-Ekbom disease, prevention and treatment of dopaminergic augmentation: a combined task force of the IRLSSG, EURLSSG, and the RLS-foundation

2) The long-term treatment of restless legs syndrome/Willis–Ekbom disease: evidence-based guidelines and clinical consensus best practice guidance: a report from the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group : sciencedirect.com/science/a...

3) Update to the AASM clinical practice guideline: “the treatment of restless legs syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder in adults—an update for 2012: practice parameters with an evidence-based systematic review and meta-analyses.” SLEEP 2012;35(8):1037. Ircam, Thanks for sharing. Some links to the articles are missing.

The only thing I will say is that most of the articles you mention are over 9 years old and have been superseded by the Mayo Algorithm of October 2021, which now relegates all dopamine agonists to last line treatment.

I guess it all depends on your needs. These papers all indicate that DA’s should no longer be considered as first-line treatments. There are no new major treatment recommendations. There is some new data and helpful guidance behind the Mayo “algorithms” but the vast majority of the “algorithms” paper is based on these older articles, which provide much more depth and breadth to our understanding of RLS.
