Do your shoes affect your RLS?

A short question rather than a long rant this time. Given that my Peripheral Neuropathy requires me to wear "sensible shoes" which accommodate orthotics has anyone found that their RLS is affected by what shoes they wear?

That’s interesting and makes me think maybe I should invest in some really healthy shoes.

I've suffered with RLS for over 35 years and have worn a variety of different styles of shoes. I've not noticed any difference in how it affects my symptoms.

I use orthotics and occasionally forget them and I’m pretty sure it makes no difference to RLS. However if you have neuropathy or nerve issues, your nerves in your feet can be more sensitive and I have seen people report strange sensations when putting shoes on like there is something extra in the shoe, or there is a fold in the sock , or they are too tight. I get this myself occasionally and tend to buy shoes a little larger to prevent the sensations. However I don’t believe it has any effect on the RLS.

Your peripheral neuropathy and rls are probably caused by the same thing, inflammation of the nerves caused by your diet. Look up 'anti inflammatory diet'. There are different ones but what's common is cutting out sugar and foods which raise insulin levels like white bread. It will help your nerves to recover if you add in omega3 supplements or oily fish like mackerel of wild caught salmon to your diet because your nerves are made from fatty acids. Another thing essential for healthy nerves is a small ammount of iodine in your diet. I take a kelp supplement once a week if I don't have seaweed like Japanese nori or Welsh laverbread. I have eliminated rls without medication by changing my diet in this way.

If you have RLS, there are also foods that you will want to avoid because they can exacerbate the condition and make your symptoms worse.
