Prescribed medication

I take several prescribed medications and very often wonder if any of them make my rls/plmd worse, does anybody know. They are Lansoprazole, Atorvastatin , Spironolactone, Candesartan and Clopidogrel. I almost rattle!! I'm sure they don't help but do any of them positively make things worse as I really suffer every night. I'm lucky in the fact I am retired, how people cope with having to work I have no idea. When I was working it was only a problem I had maybe once or so a week but then I wasn't taking all this stuff. Would be very grateful for any opinions.

Hi, some answers for you -

Lansoprazole : a proton pump inhibitor antacid known to make RLS worse

Atorvastatin ; known to make RLS worse

Spironolactone : known to make RLS worse (or even cause it)

Candesartan : known to make RLS worse

Clopidogrel : known to make RLS worse (or even cause it)

There are alternative antacids (but NOT H2 inhibitors)

There are alternative statins, or other remedies for high cholesterol.

There are alternative meds for high blood pressure or migraines.

There are alternative anticoagulants.

Have a word with your doctor to see what can be done.

Thinking about your reply to me Elffendoe you appear to be so well read can I pester you again and ask if you could recommend anything I could change my meds to. Doctors only ever seem to resort to meds. I've had high blood pressure for many years and my lovely mum died through strokes plus I recently had a TIA hence the Clopidogrel. Also if I don't take my Lansoprazole I immediately get heartburn. I really would be grateful for some advice.

A simple way to determine if a drug is rls antagonistic is to ask the renowned Dr Google.This is how you do it.

In Google or any search bar type in the name of the medication and add " and rls"

For example *statins and rls*

Will bring various research results, academic papers and individual reactions.

As always with the internet, use your discretion and common sense in assessing the results.

In looking at your current post I looked back at your previous ones and found this one. I have some answers for you although you may already have found them. For a antacid safe for RLS - Gaviscon or Bisodol. For a safe anti hypertensive: Clonidine, or

Propranolol which treats high blood pressure, angina, and prevents migraines. There are no statins that are safe for RLS. but

NEXLIZET is a cholesterol lowering drug that is not a statin, but I don't know if it causes RLS symptoms. My husband lowered his cholesterol from 221 to 131 by going on a vegan diet.
