I’m having an awful flare right now. I’m wondering if it is related to the removal of my IUD (Mirena)? I had to get it removed because it caused unending pain for five months. But now that it’s gone, I’m having this intense flare up and I don’t know what to do. Help

RLS flare from IUD?
I don’t have any answers, but I also have RLS and will be watching for answers too.
Hi, I had a Mirena IUD for many years. I had it removed about 3/4 years ago. It made no difference to my RLS. Sorry that I can't offer you a more helpful answer.
I had the same experience as rls-insomniac; also Mirena and also no effect on my RLS.
Does Mirena use hormones (sorry - never had one myself).
If it does, this would support my thought that hormones play a role in RLS for *some* people (not all of course). Mine has really escalated since menopause hit.
Argh I hope you find some relief soon!
Mirena has -some- hormones. Far less than "the pill". And yes, it is often during menopause when RLS flares up, as it does during pregnancy, most often third trimester.
Not much research into the relationship between (female) hormones and RLS unfortunately.
Yes, it’s a synthetic progesterone that ALLEGEDLY is low-dose. All I can say is that when I got one I had to increase an antidepressant after multiple panic attacks, had crazy water weight gain, had intense pain for months (even though it was “placed correctly) and felt like general sh*t. But “not side effects.” 😑 I have friends who love theirs though, so I feel like I’m insane.
I’m starting an estradiol patch and will report back.
