Hi.
I’ve recently switched medication. I’ve just started taking Gabapentin.
Can somebody remind me as to the time frame for increasing the dose please?
I’m finding it almost impossible to contact my G.P. at the moment.
Thanks

Hi Bluesbo
I take gabapentin for my rls. You didn't say how much you were on already, but just thought I'd say what I was on. I take 900mg around 6pm. My rls is much better, especially the evening, but do tend to get a bit during the night, however found if I took it later I struggled to get up in the morning, especially for an early shift.
Hope that helps a bit
Woolfy
You can increase it by 300mg every 2-3 days, or 100mg a day depending on capsule size.
Thanks Manerva. Much appreciated.
Good luck with the Gabapentin. My MD prescribed it for me and after red swollen eyes, muscle pain and more I quit taking it. Probably affects different people in different ways- But for me it was not good. Now I take a bit of iron supplement and some magnesium along with an OTC "Rested Legs" and I am doing well.

Thanks birss. I’m way past the OTC stuff regrettably. I’ve been on Pramiprexole , Rotigotine , Targinact, and reached the maximum dose of all of them.I’m a patient at King’s and apparently I’m a severe case. The problem is they are so busy with Covid patients, understandably, that it’s virtually impossible to get any help. I’ll watch out for those side effects. Thanks for the warning.
i'm taking gabapentina 4OO, neupro 4 e 3 drops or rivotril. No more trouble with RL . I'm always talking to my doctor (neuro } and he says that this is a good "blending"for severe RL.It work very well
Thanks Baoba . I appreciate your help.
I take Gabapentin (not for rls but for another neurological illness), it has been a game changer for me - not for everyone, but for me. I take 1200 a night (always at night so I sleep through it) and hope to hell that I can have it forever as I can't imagine life without it.
My doc just prescribed 300 mg/night. I'm hoping that will be enough of a dose to be effective!
I took the 300mg tab and it knocked me out for 1 hour, then the RLS woke me up. I was very unsteady on my feet, but managed to get to the bathroom to get another pill (300mg/pill) and that did the trick. I must've fallen asleep shortly after lying down again and didn't wake up until after 9:00 this morning! I went to bed around 7pm last night, so a very good night's rest! I'm thinking 600 will work for me, but we'll see how it goes. Many people take even more than 900mg.
Wow. I doubt if I get 14 hours sleep in a week.
I really needed it. I had gone 3 weeks without more than maybe 1-2 hrs a night and maybe 1 successful nap during the day that whole time. I'm cautiously optimistic!
How long have had RLS? I’ve had it for about 20 years.
I’ ve been o pramiprexole; Rotigotine; Targinact; and now Gabapentinn.
I reached the maximum dose of pramiprexole, and Rotigotine, when they stopped working. I could increase the Targinact but I’d rather try the Gabapentin.
I often go nights with no sleep at all.
Let’s see what the Gabapentin does.
I'm no expert on RLS for sure. I've only had it since the beginning of March, when I had a total knee replacement. It's oddly only in the operated knee. It is genetic for me, as my Mom suffered from it. I know I'm predisposed to it because all my life I've been occasionally woken up by my legs jolting, for lack of a better word, but can usually get back to sleep. This RLS, however is a whole different animal. It's a hell on earth I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. These past two nights of deep sleep have been so wonderful. I'm taking 2 (300mg) caps. around 6-7 pm and I woke up after 9:00 yesterday am and 8:15 today. When my operated leg is good enough for me to go back to work, I'll have to figure out how to go to bed early enough not to be groggy in the am!
I have been reading all the Gabapentin replies that have me concerned. I will share my recent dealings with the drug that has worked a miracle in my life. I am 85 years old and have had RLS for the last 40. I have also had insomnia for the last 20. 3 months ago I started having spasms and jerks in my legs not associated with my RLS that kept me from any sleep at all. With this change of fortune I was given GABAPENTIN. Within 3 days I was sleeping 6 or 7 hours a night and was relieved of RLS, spasms, and jerks. As I read the reply’s to the persons taking the Gabapentin
I wonder at the dosages I see. I take 300mg 3 times a day,
One at 9am one at 3pm and one at 9pm. Perhaps this is a doctors choice of dispensing or it could be a difference between our countries. I live in the USA. I don’t know how long this will continue but at 85 it has given me a new lease on life. Having sleep after years of dealing with insomnia was a gift I hadn’t expected when I saw the doctor for back spasms . When you read what Gabapentin can do for certain problems you will find it covers many areas not thought of. RLS and sleep deprivation are only two. Best Wishes for all of you.
Should it be taken at intervals ? My husband just started taking 600 mg but he takes it all at once at night... before bed.. any suggestions!
