Steps to come off repinole
I reduced by 0.25 mg every 2 weeks. I still had horrendous withdrawal as I'd been on we over the maximum dose of 1mg for 16 years.
As Joolsg indicates: slowly. Very slowly. And do try to get help from your doctor. If your current dose of ropinirole is high (>2mg) and has been for some time, you may be in for a tough time. You may need help, not inly mentally, but practically (a partner, a child, a very good friend) and pharmacologically (strong painkillers temporarily for the worst withdrawal effects). Start by reading the pinned posts and collecting the main info in augmentation and withdrawal to share with your doctor (gp?).
Apart from the go slow, and even before that, is the need to get your iron checked and raised to high levels. Especially the ferritin and transferrin saturation values should be assessed and 'normal' is not good enough. Ferritin low than 75ng/l warrants iron supplementation. Orally by iron bisglycinate (gentle iron) daily on an empty stomach (best just before bed) daily or once every other day ( the latter to reduce the chance of constipation as a main side effect). Be aware that raising iron levels orally is a slow process. If your levels are low enough you may qualify for an iron infusion. Even then it may take tome before effects emerge.
Agreed, you need to take it slow and gradual. Small steps over several weeks is what is needed. You will also need to consider ahead of time what your next steps will be. LotteM mentions iron levels and these do need to be checked. You've not mentioned if you are on any other meds but once you are off the Ropinirole then you will need something to help you to sleep - it will be difficult, but you'll get through it.
