I have been taking Phenergan for 10 years to help me sleep, I’m now suffering with restless legs & want to stop taking the phenergan, any advice please?

Hi Boxer,

I hadn't heard of Phenergan so I Googled and it says it is an antihistamine used as a sleep aid. Antihistamines are renowned for irritating RLS so it may be causing you issues.

Have you looked into other options for helping you get to sleep? Is this why you have been taking it? Have you tried stopping it to see if the RLS disappears?

Thank you. I have asthma & eczema thus the antihistamine, it can be bought over the counter in the UK but I have been taking it for 15 years. More recently I have developed RLS but find reducing the drug results in insomnia. Guess I’ll have to try to balance the 2 or try to slowly reduce the phenergan. Thank you for your help

Non sedating anti histamines like Clarytin and allegra don’t cause RLS & would help the eczema but then you would still have wakefulness/insomnia but maybe the new apps for insomnia would help. Or CBT?

Interested in CBT but don’t know if they have it in France

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy should be available in France but you may have to pay privately.

Like any med if you’re trying to stop- do it slowly. Ask your GP for help & advice as I don’t think anyone on here will know how to reduce it safely.
