Sorry to hear you're struggling.

It's good that you've joined this forum and you will find it lots of help'

However, for anybody to give you the best information you need to give more detail.

In your case it would be great if you explicltly stated what's the name of the pills you were prescribed and what's the dose. Do NOT stop taking the pills until you've identified what they actually are.

It would also be useful to know if your doctor has discussed the following with you-

1 iron therapy

2 underlying conditions which might be causing your RLS

3 aggravating factors making your RLS worse.

Depending on your reply, there is a lot of infornmation available which could be relevant to your case.

Just to clarify

You told your doctor you have RLS and he simply agreed with you?

Then he just prescribed ropinirole and you've been taking it for two weeks?

You must have had some symptoms then which made you think you have RLS. I read that the ropinirole has made you feel depressed, but I wonder if it made any difference to your symptoms at all?

This is quite significant because if it hadn't made any difference then it's possible you don't actually have RLS.

In relation to any cream, ointment gel etc there aren't really any that do anything for RLS symptoms except temporarily. i.e. the effect wears off after a while.

There are a lot of products with the label CBD. It may be very misleading since unless you know exactly is in it, you don't really know if it's going to be effective. They're also quite expensive.

People who claim CBD works for their RLS usually take it orally and still it depends what's in it. There's a very wide variation in the contents of CBD products and the one's that are usually claimed to be effective aren't legal everywhere.

There's no real evidence that any CBD product works for RLS.

Some people find a magnesium gel soothes their symptoms, some find a local anaesthetic works, some a counterirritant like menthol.

These only give temporary relief. They do not "prevent" symptoms occurring and they do not "treat" RLS.

The best things to do if you suspect you have RLS are

1) check if you really have it by comparing your symptoms to the RLS diagnostic criteria

2) ask your doctor for blood tests for iron deficiency i.e. serum iron, ferritin and haemoglobin. Also vitamin B12, vitamin D and magnesium.

3). If your ferritin level is below 75ug/L start taking an oral iron supplements

4) If you have low vit B12, D or magnesium, take supplements in these.

5) if you're taking any medication for anything else then check to see if you're taking something that's known to make RLS worse

6) keep a daily diary of what you eat and drinl and your symptoms to see if there's any connection.

Not only has your doctor prescribed you a potent nedication for RLS without first confirming the diagnosis and also without discussing it's treatment he has prescribed a drug which has the potential to do you more harm than good. Apparentky also without any warnings.

Do not suddenly stop taking ropinirole, this could be dangerous. If you wish to discontinue it seek further advice on how to do this safely. If you do wish to discontinue, don't leave it too long, the longer you take it, the harder it is to stop it.

I'm sorry to say that there are some creams that some people find to be some help, that's a lot of "somes". A CBD cream that has any effect is probably impossible to find.

If you do have RLS, you need to find out as much as you can about it for yourself.

It would be a good idea to read other posts on here, especially one's that mention ropinirole, pramipexole or rotigotine.

Thank you so much for the information yes it did help my leg but I was feeling not myself depressed sleepy and just weird and I was taking .5 a very low dose and I even cut that in half and I still felt weird thank you so much and have a great night

Ropinirole has side effects e.g. dizziness and drowsiness . These can diminish after a while.

Even if it does work, it's not really recommended for RLS because of its complications.

I would quit taking that with a SLOW withdrawal - gradually reducing the dose. It's fraught with side effects and eventual augmentation. There's much better solutions.

Ironically, you may be fortunate to have had a negative response to ropinerole. Long term use of that drug can (almost always) have disastrous results for rls sufferers. As others have suggested, you would do well to withdraw gradually from it and avoid taking any other drugs from the dopamine agonist family of drugs (ropinerole/requip, pramipexole/mirapex, neupro/rotigotine). Unfortunately, these drugs remain a first line of treatment by many family doctors who are unaware that opinion among rls experts is that they be avoided.

There are other treatment options and also many non-pharmaceutical suggestions that can be helpful. Probably the most significant issue in the early stages is to establish whether you are iron deficient. A serum ferritin test is a good idea. Your GP can do it. Make sure you get the actual figure - not just that you are 'normal'. Normal for rls sufferers is above 100 whereas for the general population is can be as low as 20 - this is far too low for those with rls but unfortunately many medical advisors are unaware of this. Raising ferritin levels results in improved symptoms for more than 50% of sufferers.

What pills were you put on? Look at the bottle find the name and dosage. Never take anything without looking at the name. Please look at write again.
