Did anyone watch the BBC last night? One of the patients had restless legs! Maybe it’s becoming general knowledge!

Check iron ferritin levels...

Isnt Doc Martin on ITV not BBC ? will have to go and watch it on demand now.

Its on ITV , so Docs solution was get your iron tested and stop caffeine and alcohol.

It’s now on the BBC.

As we know the no caffeine/ alcohol solution is not the panacea, but there is, at least, a slight acknowledgement that the condition exists.

Oh, on the BBC .? Bit confused as i watched in on the ITV HUB oh well. what ever channel you or myself watched it yes it did get mentioned slightly. the getting the iron tested was a good mention too.. Altho caffeine is ok for me to have, This is a drama/comedy programme so we are not going to get a in depth diagnoses. lol Wonder if the writer or producer has RLS, because its not a condition thats well known by the general public only if you have it.

Terribly sorry, Elisse2. You are absolutely right. It’s ITV. I watched it in France and the listings page had changed, so that it appeared in the list right after BBC1 - so I jumped to the wrong conclusion .

I need a brain transplant.

No worries. :)

Hi yes I watched that program.

I think the conclusion was lack of iron if one was anaemic etc..or lack of enough dopamine basically wasn't it?

I hate the ignorance. YES it has something to do with the dopamine system, but NO it is not LACK of dopamine, but lack of dopamine receptors, so the dopamine remains in the 'wrong' place (at night). It is not that difficult. Drs should study the specific subject first before they say things about it on air. Grrrrrr.

Yes..I'm sure that the specialists could get to the bottom of it..

I guess it's about funding.

You seem to be more enlightened re the medical facts than I am.. even though I'm searching for answers and researching all the time.

So how do we fix the position of the dopamine receptors..?

I was looking up food that helps with dopamine production..but probably not on the right track.

However..

another interesting thing...I took an antihistamine tablet the other day ..a thing I very rarely do..and my restless legs were worse than ever that night.

Some nights it's mild..some nights no rls...

But I've had it for many years now and do feel so sleep deprived.

In the summer the rls went away for about 4 months..

but I was being treated for a blood condition then with steroids and vitamin D and calcium tablets.

I wonder if there's a connection..?

I was Soooo happy thinking it had gone..

Maybe it's to do with circadian rhythms and lack of light.?

Any thoughts ?

Vit D and calcium , both seem to have some connection with rls.

Lotte this wasnt a real doctor, just someone playing a doctor, he was only saying what his script said to say, so it would be the writer of the programme .

So who's the ignorant person here?! ☺️

So Doc Martin is like (a) soap? 🙃

It’s not a soap but he is a fictional character in a tv series. You weren’t to know!!

Yes, I saw that! I’m from NY but just happened to see the scene while in Edinburgh for a few days. I had just been telling our friends there how I’d suffered with RLS for over a year before I found out it was from my low iron levels from extremely heavy menstrual flow (only because of you lovely people!). I had been complaining that none of my doctors knew what to do for it and how groups like these are such an amazing resource. I was so amazed that the show actually mentioned RLS and the low iron diagnosis. I know low iron is not the cause for everyone, but for those that it is, it’s life saving knowledge! If television writers know this, why don’t more doctors?!?

No I didnt -Im not really a Martin Clunes fan -I dont watch that- .Seems to be getting everywhere RLS doesnt it

Love that show! We stream it via Acorn here, and season 9 is being broadcast now. Will be sure to catch it- it should have recorded Thursday night. Mrs. Tishell have any input on RLS???
