Scientific study: uric acid levels linked to RLS, hinting at connection of RLS to oxidative stress

For those who like to keep up with all the research about possible causes of our nemesis, here's a study my watchdog came up with:

It's very dry science, but I find it worth keeping this possible link in mind.

That’s really interesting. Thanks for that, Wonko. Great to see this sort of research being carried out. So we have low uric acid levels - an important biomarker of oxidative stress. I hadn’t even heard of oxidative stress and find it difficult to understand the Wikipedia definition of it. Also I wonder do low levels of iron acid suggest low levels of oxidative stress - or high levels?

Most importantly, can uric acid levels be raised and, if so, could this improve our symptoms? Fascinating stuff.

I haven't had time to read more about oxidative stress which I was planning to do for a while, but I vaguely remember that it might be linked to chronic inflammation. That would make sense and would align with some research I've read not too long ago (will post source if I find it again) . If you find time to look into it, please share what you learned!

It is important to note that they view uric acid level as a biomarker, not a cause, so trying to control uric acid levels directly will likely make no difference.

Right yes it seems so obvious when you point it out.
