Hi ikeeptring

Zoloft (Sertraline) is listed as one of the medications best to avoid. rls-uk.org/treatment/

Wellbutrin (not available in the UK) and Trazodone do not generally worsen RLS. Mirtazapine (Remeron) will worsen RLS for a small minority but not everyone.

Thank you Kaarina, that's what I thought.

Any SSRI OR tricyclic antidepressant will make 99% of us worse.

SSRIs are not a good idea, unless your depression is severe and intractable, in which case you need to work with a sleep doctor, not a psychiatrist to get help for it and work out a protocol for both conditions.

Thanks to all who replied. I'm going to skip the zoloft. It's just irritating that the psychiatrist said it wouldn't effect the rls. You always have to do your own research!

Boy, isn't that the truth!! My 2 cents- my sister just finally got herself off that stuff and her RLS is now gone.

Are you in the US or the UK? There is an antidepressant called Mirtazapine (brand name Remeron) that is available in both countries. It is in a class of it's own, and for most people it will not bother RLS at all. I am one who takes that one, and there are several others I know that take it. Totally helped get rid of panic attacks for years now. Wellbutrin is another one, do not think it is used in the UK , though, and not my favorite. Trazadone is the other one, must be taken at bed time, it helps promote sleep. Those are really the only 3. Can I ask about your depression? Are you depressed because you cannot sleep, or is it a separate issue? Some doctors think we do not sleep BECAUSE we are depressed, when in fact, the RLS came first. it is kind of like the "chicken and the egg" question. :) rxlist.com is a very detailed web site to read up on ANY med.

I'm in the US. I'm familiar with Remeron, just afraid to take it. I looked it up and several sources stated that it will provoke RLS. I take trazadone now for sleep though I think my body is getting accustomed to it and it doesn't work as well as it used to. I tried Wellbutrin and didn't like how it made me feel. My depression is a result of my health. I have so many problems, i.e., MS, RA, glaucoma, RLS and I could go on. If it wasn't for those problems i would be a happy girl. We live on 10 acres and I used to be able to do so much around here, gardening, helping my husband with our 2 donkeys, etc. Well you weren't expecting this rant huh. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

New here! I'm wondering if my RLS is due to Sertraline (Zoloft) I'm taking for depression/anxiety? Or perhaps 10 days of Mirtazapine?

I started 25 mg Sertraline about 2 months ago and I don't recall having RLS at first. My...
