Ive started on 300mg gabapentin but my weight seems to be going up although I dont eat sugar, ver few carbs, drink any alcoholic drinks, juices etc. I think I eat carefully and healthily so why is the weight piling on. I tried lyrica and it did the same. Ive just read about topamax which has similar results to gabapentin and doesnt cause weight gain. Has anyone had any experience with this medicine.

I take 300mg of Gabapentin too and I don't seem to be able to lose weight even with careful dieting. I've heard other people say the same thing - it seems to be an adverse affect of the drug.
Hi Memmy, I was on a very high dose of Gabapentin and put weight on too. But since coming off it and going on to Oxycontin it all came off again I'm glad to say! x
I've been taking 300 to 450 mg gabapentin for 3 years with med vacation of a week now and then. I eat all I want of whole food plant based food only, no meat, fish, chicken, cheese or other dairy, just lots of greens, veggies, beans, potatoes, etc with no oil following guidelines at drmcdougall.com. in addition I burn lots of calories walking 6 miles a day, strength training, lots of gardening. I have bad nights from time to time and need naps, but I have not gained weight. Whole food plant based seems to be the key for me. Most studies seem to show Gabapentin effective for RLS for only a year or so . While it still helps it is not as effective as the first year. I'm 81.
I also tried topamax. Funny because it causes weight loss in many people, but I also gained weight from taking it.
