Beastly night

It's 1:15 am, three hours before my next pill. I've been walking, dancing, rocking, staying on the move. I'm tired, I want to lie down. It's been several months since I've had a night this bad I'm not expecting a solution, just grateful for a place to vent.

Can you think what made it worse? Meal time/ pill time /bed time? What did you eat/ drink? Change in stress level? Any other medicines? A bad night can help you find a trigger!

I'm going to have to have a think. Nothing obvious comes to mind. I like using the difficult nights to find a positive..

In those times the only thing that brings me relief are hot baths - as hot as I can tolerate. It brings ease but only for a while, that said anything is better than nothing.

On the bright side it's been several months since you've had a night that - that's a big bonus in my book, so keep focused on that.

Good luck.

Thank you. I knew I would get some good support here in this forum, and I have. It helps very much.

What I have found helpful is to sit on an exercise ball and rock or bounce. It keeps me moving but takes the weight off my legs and gives me a bit of a break.

My daughter has one of those, I think I'll borrow it and see how it goes. Nothing to lose.

Some times meds seem to stop working for no reason, and can give us a bad night or even a few bad nights, then start working again. You are very lucky to have so many months of good sleep. I hope your next night will be better.

Thank you, you are right on the whole I have more good than bad nights. It hasn't always been that way, but I have a lot more resources now.

Have you tried goodnight magnesium spray from Holland and Barret . Massage in before bed , works well for me ,not every night but most nights. Also , compression stockings help me a lot . Easy bought in Boots. It's a trial and error situation but it's such an annoying problem . So sleepy but the legs want to go dancing 😡

Also quite a lot of medication has the rls side effect so if you are on anything it would be worth googling .

If the pill you are waiting to take is an opioid, try taking a half a tsp. of agmatine sulfate, with your next dose, which reduces tolerance and stretches out the time the opioid works. I use kratom, which is a mild opioid, and with some agmatine sulfate I can often get a nice five hour stretch of sleeping at night. Then I'll wake up, take another dose of kratom and agamatine, and can often sleep three more hours. It's great. Good luck to you.

You have surpassed my knowledge of medicine.

All I can say is that I do sympathize with you. Are you on any medication?

in reply toSpudellen

Yes, ropinerole. I do like sympathy.

Taking Ropinirole long enough, you can start having augmentation which can cause the RLS to become very aggressive even in the day time. I have no way of knowing but if it continues get you dr to change to another med. I am taking a whole cocktail of meds. You may have to do the same. Not all doctors are equal. After switching drs 4 times, I found one that listens and responds.

Do you have access to a university med school? I have found that my doctors at Emory in Atlanta are really good.

Yes, the drs at Emery are phenomenal. I'm living in Florida now and it took three drs before I found one who listens and very supportive. After being prescribed three different medications I'm now taking gabapentin and it's working so far.

Good advice, jk3842. I see my Dr. on the 14th of Feb. That was first available and I'm impatient. I go to The University of Michigan for the big things(Afib). It is amazing the difference between a university hospital and the local community one. I think it might be a good idea to see what they say about rls. I'll need a referral though. Nothing gets done sooner, always later. But it's hopeful. Thank you very much

a little bit of sympathy goes a long way ....just wish it would stop the RLS from jerking/dancing. xoo

You poor thing, at least it isn't often you have unbearable nights like that. I work as a Nurse, and im pretty sure that my shift pattern doesn't help. I'm currently on nights (hence the unsocial time I am writing), and by the time I get home, I am mentally and physically tired, yet yesterday I was flapping around the bed till gone 1pm, to the point where I could of quite cheerfully of cut my arms and legs off! I was so unbelievably tired. I feel your pain, so when you're having a night like that, vent away. Cause there will always be someone awake ready to vent too :)

in reply toSweetRuby

Thank you. I'm sometimes up all night with no one to vent to so it's good to know there is a place with people who know exactly what I'm talking about.
