My husband fainted this morning after taking his 1st dose of ropinirole last night. Is this common, and should he carry on with it? Advice would be much appreciated.

Goodness me, Valerie, that is not at all good that your husband fainted this morning after a dose of ropinirole last night. Was it a low dosage to begin with?

Why don't you call NHS 111 if you are in the UK. That is what I would do but others may come on with other suggestions. I do think you should speak with someone medically trained regarding this. It could not have been for any other reason that your husband fainted perhaps?

I quickly googled ropinirole just now and read this: Ropinirole may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or fainting. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines.

Have you or your husband read the leaflet accompanying the drug especially the possible side effects?

Kaarina

I would suggest the same as Kaarina except calling NHS 111 i would think the only suggestion they would give is, for him to not take any more until you speak with your doctor on Monday. Yes, please read the leaflet and what side effects could happen. Also what dose is he taking.

I agree with the other respondents. it could well be the side effects. Go see his GP

The info sheet with my tabs says "Also Ropinirole can cause extreme sleepiness and sudden sleep onset episodes". It has never affected me that badly, though I sometimes get drowsy about 2 hours after having taken one. The extended release version seems a lot less prone to this. See your GP anyway.

Ropinirole lowers blood pressure which causes dizziness and faintness when suddenly standing/sitting up. There should be some info on the data sheet about this as its quite common. You need to contact the doctor to let him know but he should be able to continue, perhaps at a gradually increasing dose as the body can adjust to ropinirole.

Definitely a side effect of the medication. It should be right in the info you get with the prescription at the drug store. It has been a couple of days. what did his doctor say about it? there are a lot of side effects from the dopamine drugs.

Thanks all for the response, husband has been ok , seems to have been able to adapt to the new medication. no more fainting.

Good to hear Valerie72. :)
