Porridge - every morning with honey ! Gets your metabolism up and running - I've lost 3 stone this way and combination of running twice a week - 2 hours each - have reached my goal !!! Fantastic . Don't count calories either - just eat healthily . You can do this too !!

Porridge - sinks like lead that stuff. No wonder you're losing weight. Wit a stomach full of porridge you can't eat again for ages.

By the way well done with the weight loss.

I have Porridge every morning too, not with honey tho, i make it with 3/4 water and a dash of milk. I DONT do any running, phew, out of the question for me. I also eat low fat food, that keeps my weight down. Well done to you for reaching your goal.

I wish running and eating porridge got rid of RLS.

Exercising is a must to lose weight. Exercising is a good all rounder for health. It does not get rid of RLS though ;)

But did it help your RLS???????? A lot of people are saying the meds cause weight gain as some of them cause compulsive eating.

Cycling makes me tired so in a way it helps with sleeping. But if I get too tired, mostly with work than RLS kicks in. I'm pretty sure that cycling alone helps against RLS but when I work on my early shift, for which I have to get up at 5.30, then I noticed that my RLS kicks back in again because it makes me tired.

So tired from exercising is ok but tired from getting up too early is not ok!

It is the dopamine meds that cause compulsive behavior in some people. I know people who developed massive gambling problems, or compulsive shopping, and 2 women who lost their houses and everything they owned from taking Mirapex. Very important, cicek, to monitor one's behavior if trying any of the Parkinson's meds....Ropinerole and Pramipexole are well known for this, so it is good to be aware of this. rxlist.com is the most detailed web site on meds, and interactions and side effects.

Hello! Good on you and congratulation for your weight! I eat muesli that no added sugar or salt, so similar!! My form of exercise is cycling!! I use my bike to go everywhere I need to go. Exercise is the best way of losing weight plus it puts back muscles in the right place and makes you feel good!

I have to say....yes exercise does help with weight loss, but i didnt do ANY exercise and i still lost weight. I lost a stone two years ago, just by a low fat diet, actually i dont like to call it a diet, its more changing what you eat and how you cook it. I am not advertising, but i used the slimming world recipes online, i didnt even go to the classes. Some people find exercise can help with the symptoms of RLS, as along as you dont over do it, otherwise it can make RLS worse for some. When i have participated in any exercise, it never made any difference to my RLS. in the past or now. The most i do is walk my dog, and that isnt miles, just a normal walk for maybe 1/2 hr, weather permitting. :)

Ditto to the excercise thing ellise ....never made any difference to my rls except for the time I'm actually active then when I stop its still there!

yes, over exercising can be worse than under exercising. One good "rule' is nothing really too stressful or overactive 3 or 4 hrs before bed time. Then you can cool your core temperature down before you lay down to sleep (hopefully sleep! that is ;) )

I agree Elisse. Changing how we think about food and of course some exercise is the only way to lose weight. Once the word "diet" comes into it, then it becomes harder. Lots of people of course using Slimming World lose plant of weight without exercise. Exercise has never made any difference to my RLS. I do stretching every evening and during an episode but never found it helps. Keeps me mobile though! They do say that over exercise makes it worse.

Yes, good to do something, to keep us mobile. Stretching doesnt seem to help my RLS either...even tho i do stretch when having a RLS attack, in the hope it might work. Pacing seems to be the only thing which gives some relief, til i stop and sit down,or lay down. Last night was a bad night for me, so even walking the dog will be a challenge, i am sooooo tired.

Well I lost 3 stone last year. Didn't change eating habits, didn't excercise, wasn't ill, .......I started smoking again after 20 years off.....said in a very small embarrassed small voice....not personally or medically recommend!!!!!

Hmmmm, maybe smoking speeds up the metabolism.

Just wondering, you do have RLS, right? ;) Did the weight loss help you at all, or did it make no difference in RLS context only for this question of mine.

Gosh! I have porridge with golden syrup most morning,s but perhaps the 2 hrs running is the one burning of the calories?
