Diabetes and RLS : Hi, i urgently need... - Restless Legs Syn...
Diabetes and RLS
What do you need to know? There are all kinds of theories for diabetes and RLS, they are studying it, but there is no hard evidence. Diabetes and RLS are being investigated together, but no big studies to show you, as of yet. I can check further. But, I know what I have read over the last few years. Will get you something to read. It is mostly all conjecture, and they think it 'might" or "could be" connected, like a lot of other things. Hope your niece makes out all right! What are they giving her a hard time about? You can have RLS and diabetes comorbidly, (2 conditions at the same time).
they stopped her rls meds, said it was making the diabetes worse, and shes thrashing about, and they think shes just putting it on, and then they say she cant have RLS and diabetes, and trying to make her take amitrptyline grrr, to calm her down, even when they saw the reaction it had on her, they got huffy with her, more like butchers than doctors, i did print of some facts and info about RLS, but i was more or less brushed aside
In the 2nd edition of Dr. Buchfuhrer's book on page 59, "Most epidemiologic studies have suggested that RLS is more common in diabetes. A case series study and case-control study found that RLS is more frequent in diabetics , perhaps due to the associated neuropathy". When you say "She is really going thru it" what is "it"? The diabetes complications or the RLS or both?
both, plus ignorance from doctors, and altering her insulin
WOW, thats awful, for your niece, i hope in the end she got her RLS meds back. Stupid doctors....!!!
she's in a coma !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh no..!!!! I hope they are giving the proper insulin for this....wow, so sorry...
i took her meds for rls, but they saw them, and i showed them that she has mirapexin on repeat, they still dont accept it as a problem for her, poo pooing the idea that its causing her so much grief, they practical throw me out if the hospital today, i went to her gp, and told him what is going on with her, and he's got the name of her consultant and says he going to ring him, i hope he can make them see sense
oh good lord, why !! surely theres one member of staff there that understand's, i do hope thing's get better later xx
I hope her doctor gets the message through to them telling them she NEEDS her RLS meds. What alot of uncaring staff at that hospital.
I took my former reply out of this discussion.
Your family is in my prayers. I hope that the right person
gets on this case and helps her. Sounds like it has escalated
really fast.
You are a good person. You are trying to do what is right for her.
I hope that someday I have someone who fights for my comfort
until they get kicked out of the hospital. She's lucky to have you.
I am so sorry to see this thread sister3, I hope your GP can put them right! Have you spoken to her consultant? This is so wrong! They did this to my Mum once...a locum took her off thyroxine , saying she didnt need it!!!! No blood tests ...nothing!! she ended up really poorly. is there a patint support system in the hospital. Hope she gets well soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you x x x x
im just her aunt, just got back from the hospital, her mum was talking to them today, and they wouldnt let me in the office, hmmm got scowled at, but i know the gp has rung, no change yet, but thank you ladies for your care x, im so glad to hear that some of you do care, it helps x
My sister would step up to the plate if I couldn't
for my own child. Bless your heart for being
both a superb sister and untie.
In a crisis such as a coma, I am sure that RLS
isn't even being considered by the doctors who
are desperately trying to get her sugars in order
while trying to protect her organs from damage.
It's quite a serious moment for everybody.
Some medications have a profound effect on
diabetes and even though in the last hour I
could find no evidence that mirapexin contributes
to the blood sugar issues or diabetes...it's some
thing that they tend to push away until she is
stabilized.
While she is in a coma (induced or not) she
probably isn't suffering RLS but it must have
been hell for you to watch her before this...
Some things that help is for you, yourself to take
deep breaths, Give this situation over to God
by envisioning her right in the palm of his hand..
or if that doesn't suit you then lay it at the feet
of whatever higher power you choose. =)
I think that you said your piece and you fought
as hard as possible.. You tried.
Stay calm, ask them to consult her RLS doctor
and to make her as humanly comfortable as
possible to their means... Use your human
touch to help calm her down.. a light back-rub
foot rub, calf muscle rub.. it does have some
power..(my sister did this for me while I was
in the hospital- I will never forget this!)
I know that you are angry and hopeless. Big
hugs to you and tons of prayer being said for
her, for you, for her doctors. Keep us posted.
Lovely post Yikes x x x x
