RLS leads to panic attack

Has anybody experienced the development of panic symptoms when trying to suppress/ignore RLS? This happens to me on a daily basis. It can be quite scary if I don't find somewhere to pace/stride for an hour or so.

Absolutely this is the result of trying to go against what your body wants to do, sometimes I have to let out screams of frustration, you cannot ignore the symptoms, it is an extremely debilitating condition. I have had it for over 40 years now and it doesn't get any easier.

Hi, by trying to ignore the symptoms, you will only make it worse, you know its going to happen, so best thing is just to go with it, get up and do something to try take your mind of it, and walk around if thats what you need to do

I went on a drug trial previously and therefore had to stop taking my current medication of Sinement and Ropinirole.

The withdrawal of those drugs gave me some horrid effects including a lot of panic attacks, fainting etc...

If I am on a plane I start to panic knowing space is limited. Now If I have a long flight I take a sleeping pill with the mirapex and just try and go to sleep. Anit-anxiety drugs help but ninety per cent of them make you gain weight which is in itself depressing so I don't take them any more.

I think we all get panicky just thinking of RLS setting in especially in confined quarters.

Panic attacks can be caused by low blood sugar - so eating every 3 hours will help stave off those awful feelings. I suffered for over 30 years. Hormones play part often without us realising how much a part, so the anxiety surge can be triggered when the body needs sustenance. Often people with high levels of anxiety become aware of every movement, twitch etc. throughout the body so if one has RLS and is more focussed on the body ....... up goes the anxiety!

I have taken anti-anxiety medication for over 20 years and have NEVER put on weight - it's often a myth. The person with axniety may not eat correctly but once the anxious feelings are more controlled they eat properly = weight gain. I am interested in knowing which 90% of anti-anxiety medications are recognised as possilbe weight gain culprits?

I also have been taking anti anxiety meds for agoraphobic panic disorder for about 20 years, and I am told I too thin now. so, it yes, it is a myth for some people. ;) It is all individual. and everyone reacts differently to meds, so not all anxiety meds will always cause weight gain. But, my panic attacks used to be first thing in the a.m. as soon as I opened my eyes, RLS or not. I now take Mirtazapine, for one of my meds

, and my doctor says I am one of the few people who have lost weight on it. So, you never know. The med I really gained weight on was not an anxiety med but Gabapentin. 60 lbs. But, in general , most of the people I know that have true panic disorder and RLS, are skinny, not overweight. So, it really just depends on your body's reactions to certain meds on an individual level. ;)
