Just completed my 6th week of quiting. I am experiencing very low moods. Has anyone here suffered depression? Many thanks, Jonny.

HI jonny, Lovely to meet you. I am Jillygirl, 63 yrs old and I quit 4 months ago. Yes I felt really low at times and moody, but each time you experience feeling like that means your body and your brain are adjusting to being a non-smoker.

Emjay our advisor will be on tomorrow or Claire they are both brilliant at explaining things .

Whilst your waiting have a browse through the questions and blogs there is plenty to learn from these.

Well done on reaching 6 weeks thats brilliant.

If you let Emjay know how many you used to smoke and if your using nrt

I feel sure she will be able to help.

Please please join in our community, yes we are a bit silly at times but it really does help to get.support of others like yourself.

See you later . :)

Hiya Jonny and welcome to our lovely community. (Love the nom de plume, by the way! :) )

Firstly, well done for getting into your 6th week. :)

If you have a trawl back through the archives and previous blogs and questions you can find quite a bit of info.

You may spot that I've had a few really low spots along the way (I'm 3 months in now) and the support and some daft comments from the crew on here have really helped me get through them. I don't know but I suspect it's a bit like a bereavement and that in time it will just get easier.

Please come and join us on the daily chat and tell us how you're doing, be it good or bad - I'm sure Pete would be happy to have a bit of male support! :o (That's, of course, if you are indeed a male? :D :D )

Andi :)

Well Jonnyenglish, i think Jillygirl has said most of it, but Jonny its not easy, i tell you, because i have my bad days, and good days, which includes depresion, but as Jillygirl says, thats part of quitting, it gets us all in different ways, pal, but all you have to think of is, that light at the end of the tunnel, when you come out a none smoker :) :) does that make sense, not quit sure, cus av had a couple of lagers,

Jonny please keep in touch with us, because tomorrow, Emjay - or Claire, will be here to help you, they are the quit support team, and i tell you, what they dont know, you dont need to know.

You keep it up pal, you have got this far :) :) and i know you can get further :) :)

Hey Jonny :-)

welcome to our online stop smoking community :) A place where you can shout from the roof tops about how well you are doing :D or have a good scream and rant when you feel those little white sticks are getting the better of you :-/

You'll meet others going through the same as yourself and be able to share your experiences :-)

With regards to feeling low, this can be normal. Try and turn this feeling on it's head by realising that feeling this way is actually a positive sign that your body is learning to deal with living without nicotine. There are many ups and downs, highs and lows of giving up smoking it really is amazing how it can affect you :-/

This feeling will go away, whether you have a cigarette or not, I promise. Have you tried any of our breathing exercises to help these times pass more easily? If you have trouble finding them, let me know and I'll send you the link :-)

Just try and keep positive, remember why it is that you are giving up smoking in the first place... :-)

Let me know when your quit date was and I'll pop your name up onto our Wall of Winners :-)

You really have come so far, being smokefree for 6 weeks now is fantastic :-)

Hey Jonny

I have these days - yesterday was one of them, such a strong urge to get away and have a fag. I realised I maybe would be feeling just as fed up with or without the cigarette, probably. So just another one of those days, hours, to get through. I am glad to say I didn't have one, that would have made me feel even worse, especially after the low had passed.

Stay strong, and many, many congratulations getting to week 6. I am on week 5, still going :)
