Hi Charlie, welcome to quit support. As for quitting have you thought if your using any nicotine replacemnt product or going cold turkey? If you are going to use a nrt product then I would say plan your quit and prepare how your going to start your quit. By this I mean plenty of distractions , healthy nibbles , change of routine. If you decide to go cold Turkey then perhaps a practice run to see how you feel.

I am sure other members will be on later and give their advise. Good luck with the quit and the exams. :)

Hi Charlie and welcome to the site, it's good to see you exploring the options for your quit. I hope you don't mind but I would like to ask you some questions.

So can I ask how many cigs do you smoke a day, and also, have you just decided to quit or have you been thinking about it for a while?

Have you ever attempted to quit before and if so what was your experience of doing that? Did you suffer from nicotine withdrawal which affected your focus and attention, or any other withdrawal symptoms? Did you try any nicotine replacement therapy or did you go cold Turkey?

The answers to the above will help us to advise you in the best way possible. The last thing I want to say is yes, do it now because it's the very very best thing you can do for yourself and your future - absolutely no doubt about that!, I can't say that because you are currently studying for exams and I don't want to recommend anything that will take your mind off doing that - especially given how close they are. I'm not even sure it would be legal for you to buy nrt which is another thing to think about, and it's not cheap (although much cheaper than cigarettes I have to say).

Do not change your mind about giving up smoking, whether you do it now or after your exams - this is one of the best decisions you can ever make and I promise you from the bottom of my heart that smoking is hell and your life will be thousands of times better without those toxic, stinky, horrible, expensive cigarettes. And it just isn't cool anymore - I have 2 daughters not much older than you and neither of them have ever smoked and none of their friends do either - even at uni hardly anyone smokes! So you have to get it out of your life never to return again.

This is brilliant, we can do this, but we need to plan it so that you can get through your exams whether you stop before or after. How is the studying going? Are you on top of it, what sort of grades are you expecting to get? Do you think that your smoking could be affecting how well you study? All these things are relevant so don't hesitate to tell us.

Whatever happens good luck in your exams and the very best of luck in stopping smoking - you can do it! :)

The Girls have given you loads of great advice already :) but I would just like to say, maybe leave it until after your exams, then you have got time to plan for your quit :o and get it right the first time eh :)

When your ready to make your quit plan, we will all be here to help you and talk you through the different ways of quitting and the different types of NRT, if you are going to use it :) Have a nosey around, come on the Daily chat and get to know us :) Ermmm, quitting smoking is hard gal, soooooooo, we have a bit of fun now and again to help us get through it see :)

I'm Pete by the way, an old boy with 1 brain cell, as anybody on here will tell you :o :D :D

Good luck with your exams Charlie :) :)

There is a smart drug that does help concentration ... A respiratory nurse told me recently. You could check how you go quitting for a day or so and then continue to quit if ok. Or make definite date after exams to quit so you will still have much better and longer life. Imagine you are 50 years old and short of cash and short of breath so that your life is limited and you can't do things you enjoy ... that is the hard truth of smoking. X

Charlie,

Don't really mind when you quit as long as you DO IT.I started smoking when I was your age & thought it would be a breeze to quit and that I COULD quit whenever I wanted!! I ended up smoking for 38 years!!!!! Do yourself a HUGE favour and quit as soon as you possibly can.The only things cigs do for you is 1/ Give you health problems as you get older 2/Cost LOADS of money and 3/Rob you of your sense of taste and smell.QUIT AS SOON AS YOU CAN.Sorry if all this scares you, just wish someone had sat me down and done it for me.Good Luck with the exams and PLEASE just listen to the good folk on here who can absolutely help you get off the cigs.Let us know how you get on.
