Hi rach
I too found day 3 particularly bad when quitting the dreaded white stick, but you can get through this, I am now on 6 weeks and 3 days and still counting, try some sugar free gum the stronger the taste the better and try to look at all the positives for quitting, keep checking your list, I know it's really hard but you will be on your 4th day tomorrow and hopefully this will be an easier day for you. I so desperately wanted to get to one week and then one month and now my target is 3 months, one day at a time.......... You will get through today really you will, keep yourself busy, we are all here to support you, everyone is lovely on here and will try their best to encourage you to succeed. good Luck with the rest of today x

Hi Rach, Like Kaprin has said stay positive. You are doing great coughing is good as it means your chest is getting rid of all the rubbish that those ciggys have in them. Your lungs will be repairing themselves already. Each day is a bonus and you will get fitter as you keep smokefree. If your struggling like Kaprin says come on here and have a grumble or ask a question, or just join in the daily chat we will do our best to support and help you.

Hi Rach_T,
Welcome to Quit Support, and congratulations on making what could be one of the greatest decisions of your life, to stop smoking
Some great advice from both Kaprin and JillyGirl there It is really important to remember that how you are feeling now will not last forever. Just keep in your mind that if you were to carry on smoking, then you wouldn't feel this way - However, you would continue to be doing unmeasurable damage to your health. Feeling this way shows that your body is recognising that it is not being pumped with all those 4,000 plus nasty toxic chemicals (over 60 of which are cancer causing) - so even feeling this way is a good and positive sign
Keep on keeping on and we'll help you get to where you want to be
Hay Rach_h,
My coughing started around week 3 into my quit and it does get you down at times.
How I try and cope with it is every time I cough up the brown stuff I put it to one side (yeah gross I know) and at the end of my coughing fit I look at it and say to myself that's another part of my lungs cleaned.
I also do some relaxation to try and clear my mind and focused on positive thoughts. I use this for my anxiety, but it also helps when I've been coughing loads to help relax my chest muscles and lungs.
Your doing really well, keep it up, and don't be to hard on yourself if you have a bad day.
All the best and good luck.
