I received this message from Dr. Michael Zelefsky this month:

I’m writing this letter to let you know I will be leaving Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) on September 6, 2023. For more than 30 years, it has been an honor to be part of the care team at MSK. I will be making a change to lead the prostate cancer program at NYU Langone Medical Center’s cancer center.

There will be no change to your care at MSK. If you’re scheduled to see me after September 6, 2023, we will call you to reschedule your next appointment. Our excellent genitourinary oncology nurse practitioners will manage your care.

If you’re in active treatment, our nurse practitioners and Dr. Sean McBride or Dr. Marisa Kollmeier will continue your treatment plan. Our office will contact you with your next appointment.

As a member of the Department of Radiation Oncology, I had the good fortune to work with these wonderful colleagues at MSK. They’re all experts in prostate cancer.

I cannot praise this doctor enough. The care and treatment I received from him and his staff was outstanding. A fantastic benefit for NYU Langone and a great loss for MSKCC-NYC.

They all work as a team, so care won't be interrupted for sure. Dr. Kollmeier is excellent (personal experience) as well. Langone steals a good one ;)

I wonder if there's a story behind it. Is it a simple matter of "they made him an offer he couldn't refuse"? I'm debating whether to follow him to NYU. As Coolone remarked, they work as a team. Dr. Zelefsky's nurse practitioner, Marie Nalle, was particularly fantastic during my treatment (started SBRT with a 6.33 PSA in May '22; PSA now 1.42). If Marie is still at MSK, I just may stay.
