radiotherapy soon

hi , nearly 2 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, no symptoms or anything, just a random blood test flagged up my PSA was high, after tests, scans and biopsies I was told my Gleason score was 7(4+3) and the cancer was contained within the prostate gland, I had to make a decision either radiotherapy or surgery, I opted for surgery, and that was in September 2021, all went well and the lymph nodes removed were clear, my PSA was 0.02 after surgery but every 3 months it was rising slowly, my consultant referred me for hormone therapy and radiotherapy, which is where I am now, I start on 1st June and finish 3rd July, I have made an effort to visit the gym regularly and have made some dietary changes, I feel good and confident but the nearer it gets I’m feeling a bit anxious, maybe because I really don’t know how it will affect me,

So if anyone has any advice please feel free to pass it on,

Kind regards

Pete (UK)

Resistance exercise is the most beneficial, keep at it. You are on the right path. Be calm and carry - on.

Cardiovascular exercise is the most important. I ran 5 miles everyday I had radiation.

that’s some going, I’m doing about 1 1/2hrs , 4 days a week, gym, swim and sauna, my gym is on the way to the hospital, I’m planning on getting the radiotherapy done my appointments are 08:30 then go to the gym for a workout,

How did you feel during and after Allen? Appetite, sleep , energy?

I felt great throughout. Good oxygenation helps radiation work better and protects healthy tissues. A couple of weeks after, I had the expected acute systems that only lasted for a few weeks. But I didn't have hormone therapy.

did you ask, or did your RO volunteer to discusss the probabilities of various side effects from both the RT and the ADT?? The list is long, but impossible to predict your outcome...just probabilities . Many studies if you are nterested ...use Google or pubmed search.

Cardiovascular and weight training are both essential. If you had to choose one it would be cardiovascular, but you don’t so there you go.

hormone therapy means you will be chemically castrated. I'm naturally there with a T level of 38. 38 is near castration levels. Might want to ask how long the hormone therapy will go on, because there are some major side effects to low testosterone. Hopefully you can get off the hormone treatment as soon as possible. Good luck with it.
