Complete blockage, need TURP

2 months after HIFU, I woke up and went to pee and only drops came out. This went on for a few days then I went to urgent care. Skipping past the horrible care by doctors in Vegas, I returned to my HIFU doctor in Los Angeles who scoped it and found a blockage and recommended TURP. That is scheduled for next Tuesday.

My question is regarding the after care. I'm single, and was planning on the 4 hour drive the day after surgery even though not recommended. Is it doable? What other issues can I expect in the following days?

LVRob if you have the laser treatment it is an overnight in the hospital with the possibility of not needing a catheter and a leg bag. I had the TURP prior to the laser and it was a 3-week recovery when I was 50 and in great shape. Pretty much like having and major surgery. So you just might be able to get away with it. If you can't you could stay overnight in a hotel along the way. I think it might be difficult to drive if you still need the leg bag. Also, frequent rests might help, as they will want you to drink plenty of water with your antibiotics. Good luck!

I asked about laser but its not scarring but a block from debris. I booked a flight instead so hopefully its not too rough. Catheter doesnt bother me too much. Dont think i can wait 3 weeks to return to work though

It may not have been 3 weeks it was in 2003 and I really just guessed.

LVRob, how did it go? How is the blockage?

It went well. Very sore and painful with the cath in, and tears when it came out. Now, two weeks out, its just a little sore. Good strong pee when waking up, and pretty normal when I build up enough in the bladder (usually from laying down). I leak a lot, but am working on the kegels and it should get better soon.

How have past several months been post treatment? Did you develop anyscar tissue which could cause strictures to form inside penis or urethra?

No strictures. Flow is good. Still have some stress incontinence, 8 months post.
