When do you normally get your first s... - Pregnancy and Par...
When do you normally get your first scan? I am 10 weeks pregnant, seeing midwife next week, but desperate to know if there's a heartbeat.
12 weeks is your first scan
If you have a history of recurrent miscarriage, they will sometimes scan you earlier than 12 weeks, but the 12 week scan is the best because then they check for anomalies etc. xx happy waiting xx
If you buy a Doppler, b aware that u may not hear heartbeat upto 24 wks, each person is different but the midwife used to use Doppler at 16 wks to let u hear heartbeat but guildelines have changed and it is now 20 plus wks as like said before u cannot always hear heartbeat early on and to many people were ending up at hospital thinkin they had lost baby and scan showed everything fine, so I'm not sayin dnt get one but b aware u may not b able to hear it til later on would hate for u to scare urself
Think it depends on ur area. the books say 10-14 weeks so generally averages out at 12 but at my booking appointment last week my midwife said between 12-14 weeks! Like u I'm anxious!
At ur booking appointment they put in a scan request. I went last tue, got my appointment in the post fri for a week the following wed, so 2 weeks and a day from seeing midwife, i will b 12+3 then .
1 week tomorrow! Can't wait.
Also I was a bit naughty and got a doppler! I heard baby mon for the 1st time tried a few times b4 and didn't get it , it's hard to as baby's so small and there's so many other noises going on down there but I watched you tube vids and am confident on the sound iv heard.
I got a angel sounds jumper 2.5 mhz off ebay for £30 but wish I would have got a sonoline b as they are a lot clearer from the videos iv watched, I think they cost more like £45! mines quite staticy so although u can hear it's under the static tones! Need to try earphones and c if that clears it as it could just be the speaker! Maybe need to send mine back for a replacement if that's the case.
All the best.
If ur worried hunny ring the antenatal number on you pregnancy log book after you've seen midwife and explain your worries and they can book you in over the phone i did this and was seen 2 weeks later xx
