I doubt it! Lots of vegetarian women have children. But you could always speak to your GP to identify whether there are any foods or supplements you might need, to make sure you're getting all your nutrients. Have fun conceiving! ;) x

Thanks, I'm taking a pre conception vitamin tablet with folic acid, wanted to ensure getting all the right vitamins. Fingers crossed :)

Hi there, I'm also vegetarian, and have been for seven years now. Me and my partner decided to begin trying last July, as we were planning our wedding. I came off the pill and started on some pregnancy vitamins, mostly for the folic acid. I had a period in August, and mid September we found out I was pregnant already! I think if anything, a veggie diet is probably better anyway, because apart from not being allowed to eat certain cheese, i've not really had much change to my diet, like some meat eaters would have, (no Undercooked meat, no pâté, no certain fish or shelfish etc). I've continued taking multivitamins throughout the pregnancy even though my midwife told me you only really need to take them for the first few months, because like you said, I want to ensure I'm not missing out on anything that baby might need. I think as long as you have a balanced diet, it shouldn't matter if your veggie or not. Good luck and have fun! X

I'm the same, carried on taking the multi vits now 23 weeks. Lucky as lots of fresh produce and tofu and soy products in Asia . Bonus is giving birth in a vegetarian hospital!! Lol

I have almost gone vegetarian since the time we decided to conceive and during my first 12 weeks I could not even stand the smell of anything fleshy in food - which was a big surprise for the family knowing how big a foodie i am - now I can take eggs once a while. But obviously there are so many Mom's who are vegetarians and dont even eat garlic, onion or ginger in food for religious purposes (I can count almost 20 million purely vegetarian Hindu females in India among them if not any more) and they all have babies and healthy ones. And yup spinach and a lot of it helps to supplement the folic acid even. (although it does not mean you should not have supplements, you must if required)

Just make sure you are having a balanced diet so you aren't short on anything , particularly iron!!! Low iron levels can leave you feeling rotten do just keep up your vitamins and est a healthy balanced diet. Hope all goes well for you x
