Not gaining weight?

I just had a beautiful little girl almost 3 wks ago. Being a mum is just amazing, I love getting to know her and I can't wait til we get a smile. Of course we are all totally knackered and I still have some pregnancy brain! So don't know if my questions are good ones or if i'm just a little overwhelmed by everything.

I think feeding is going well (I’m doing mixed feeding – bit of breast and bottle). Maybe it’s cos I’m a new mum but I do worry about whether she’s getting enough milk. She seems thin and family have said how she’s not ‘a chubby one’! I'm wondering if anyone on here can tell me how to tell if she is gaining enough weight and everythings OK?

Many babies do not appear to put on weight in the early days and its not because they’re unhealthy its more likely they’re naturally slow gainers, or in need of more milk. If you’re unsure you can always try offering your daughter some more milk. If she’s hungry she will take it. If not, so long as she appears to be healthy then don’t worry about what other people are saying. If in doubt ask your midwife or health visitor when they visit, or arrange a visit to your GP. Lanai - I think you'll really know if/when there's something wrong. We got feeding all wrong and ended up being admitted back to hospital on day 3 post-birth (DD had lost 11% of birth weight) after crying for almost 10 hours straight without feeding properly. As Daphne has said: if in doubt ring GP/midwife/health visitor.

By the way, there's no such thing as a bad question!
