My LG is 3w4d amd has projectile vomited at least once a day since she was a week old and then smaller amounts of sickness after other feeds. She had a cold earlier this week and thought her sickness would get better once her cough stopped but now realise the cough is part of reflux. Gaining weight fine (7lb 7oz born and 8lb 10oz at 3w2d). Had a MW appointment this week and she suggested making an appointment with a GP to discuss prescribing infant gaviscon. Is this needed/likely to help? Don't want to give her medication if it's going to stop her body getting better by itself and not sure if it will really help. Once she's sick sometimes she's unsettled and wants a second feed, other times she'll happily go to sleep. It seems to be before she's sick that causes more problems. We're sitting her up to feed, keeping her sat up for 30 minutes afterwards and taking regular breaks to wind. Was BF in hospital but been formula fed since 2 days old. The sickness can be within 30 minutes of feeding or can be a couple of hours later but we can normally hear when she's likely to be sick as it sounds rattling inside her or she has the reflux cough.

Any suggestions of anything else we can try or have you got experience of seeing a GP about this/using gaviscon?

We found the dr browns bottles made a huge difference. We still had to do the 30mins upright but the pace in which our little one was feeding was too quick and the extra air wasn’t helping the reflux. We were prescribe the infant gaviscon but it can make babies constipated so we didn’t use it more than a couple days as we didn’t see much difference. Hope this helps!

My eldest had severe reflux and colic - it’s a pain to get right and had to try different methods until we found what was right for her. As above dr brown bottles were the best for her, switched to comfort milk and every bottle she had a drop of colief in (you can buy from any supermarket or Amazon) baby gaviscon didn’t work for us either just made it worse as she would get so constipated. Good luck x
