I'd feed breast first every time then top up with formula if needed.

I do mixed feeding too but I use breast pumps to express the milk. I used to give all the milk I could express at one time and then top up with formula but noticed lately that he can get fussy sometimes when I change during one feeding so I express enough for one feeding over 2 pumping sessions and give full feed of breastmilk at one feeding and full formula on next.
