What to eat help
Hi! You probably want to stick to your normal diet so that your test accurately reflects the current state of your body. In any case, they will ask you to fast and what they are really interested in is measuring how your body processes the sugary syrup that they will give you on the day, which I don't think is something you can influence by diet in the run up to the test. My blood sugar level that was closest to the upper limit was actually the fasting one before taking the syrup so it is not necessarily indicative of whether you will pass the test or not. I hope it goes well!
If you have gestational diabetes, your diabetes team should talk through your diet with you and prescribe you medication if you can't control your sugar with diet and exercise alone. You should watch the amount of carbohydrates you eat and try and get them from healthy sources like brown pasta.
If you can't control it on sorry alone you should be offered insulin and possibly something like Metformin.
There a helpful Facebook page for gestational diabetes too for more advice.
yes agree with eloqentia - you should absolutely just keep to your normal diet so they accurately know when they test you if there’s an issue.
I was diagnosed in week 39 with GDM and found on blood test that keeping a low carb diet kept it under control, I got no help with diet - just did it myself. I don’t think whilst I was diagnosed that anyone was that bothered in week 39
Hi,
There is a really good resource ‘Gestational Diabetes UK’ website, Facebook page and instagram page that has loads of information on what is best to eat. I followed this in both my pregnancies with GDM and managed to stay diet controlled.
Good luck 😊
