Is it normal for baby to be super active one day and next to nothing the next.
I have gestational diabetes and take metformin and feel baby kicks less when I take 1000mg metformin in the evening. The next day baby will be less active.
Anyone else had such an experience?

I have noticed that my baby’s movement can fluctuate somewhat but not extremely drastically. I did worry on a couple of occasions when it seemed drastic and then movements picked back up.
The advice is if you are worried to contact your midwife or hospital. I did go in once for reduced movements and everything was fine. I was told to try a number of things if I noticed the baby was not moving as much eg have something to eat, drink, lie down for a a couple of hours to see if baby’s movements return.
Overall though they always say to be safe than sorry so if you are at all concerned then have it checked out.
Hey thanks. I've got an appointment coming up I will speak to them. I'm only 23 weeks so I tell myself baby could be moving but I can't feel it. Also don't know what to look out for as it's my first pregnancy
Before 28 weeks or so, they say the movements can be more erratic. Definitely worth checking the link between your meds and the reduced foetal movements.
I can feel light kicks so that makes me think it's ok don't need to call anyone. Do you think I should even though I am feeling kicks every now and then.
If you noticed the movement reduced you should call. It's likely everything is fine, but do check it. Don't worry, they want you to call, my midwife kept reminding me that when I was pregnant. I called triage three times in my pregnancy and they never made me feel I'm bothering them.
"From 18-24 weeks on you should feel the baby move more and more. After 32 weeks, the movements will stay roughly the same until you give birth."
"Contact your midwife or maternity unit immediately if you think your baby’s movements have slowed down, stopped or changed. There are staff on the hospital maternity unit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
DO NOT put off calling until the next day to see what happens.
Do not worry about phoning. It is important for your doctors and midwives to know if your baby’s movements have slowed down or stopped."
It really depends on what you tell them. I rang my hospital triage about 7 weeks ago around 29 weeks pregnant because I had had some really weird almost spasming movements and was worried he was having a seizure. They just asked about my history, his usual movements, how many etc and then decided that is was unlikely to be significant and just to keep an eye on it. They were very encouraging of both my calling them and calling them back if needed. They may ask you in for a scan if there is a clear drop in movements xx
Hi, I just spoke to triage and they've asked me to come in at 1pm today. So hopefully things will get cleared up. Didn't ask me any questions I just said I've felt next to nothing since yesterday and told me to come in.
Hey that's so freaky I was just telling myself I should pop back on here and let the ladies know whats what. And there's your message waiting for me. That's so sweet of you to check back. Thankfully everything is fine. They listened in to the heartbeat and just told me to call back if baby didn't move much. But baby has kicked quiet alot after I drank really cold water. The midwife told me to have a word with my diabetes team about the medication which could be a reason for reduced fetal movement. She didn't really tell me why baby might have just slowed down otherwise. But hearing heartbeat reassured me everything's ok. 🙂
Morning, I've been finding the exact same thing (I'm 24 weeks and not on any medication). I find that if baby is really active one day, they will be pretty subdued the next - I assumed it was because they were tired from all the bopping around. I also find the movements can vary depending on my energy levels. Spoke to my midwife who said nothing to worry about. Definitely worth speaking to yours just for peace of mind, especially due to the medication - I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but always good to check in with them on things like this.
Hi, yes I think our energy levels have something to do with it. My blood sugar levels were low nearly all day yesterday that could br the reason. I'm going to call midwife now anyway and maybe they can check everything over. Hopefully everything's ok 😐
