Counting kicks

Hi All. When (if) did you start counting your baby's kicks? I'm 24 weeks and haven't really been able to detect a pattern in my baby's movements yet, which I wasn't overly worried about however, a midwife told me that from now on I should start to notice a pattern. I have some days when baby is super active and kicks really hard several times every hour or so, then the next day the kicks are much further apart and much weaker. I've got the 'what to expect when you're expecting' book which says this is quite normal. I've just ordered a wrist band from kicks count, and have downloaded an app, but can't seem to find consistent information on how far along I should be when I start counting? I'm a massive worrier! Thanks in advance.

I went to MAU with reduced movements at 24 weeks. They checked our boy and said he was fine. They also said they don't get concerned until your 28 weeks pregnant as by then baby should have a pattern. I didn't count kicks until around 28 weeks as he was more regular with movements then. I thought he was in a pattern at 24 weeks which he kind of was but it was more obvious 4 weeks later xx

Like Major said ^ it's usually after 28 weeks that you're advised to keep track. To be honest I never did, but I just got used to the familiar feel of baby's kicks rather than the time. I'm sure all is fine. Try not to worry

With both my kids I hardly felt kicks or major movements the whole pregnancies. Unlike my sister there was feet sticking out her belly was always moving.

About 28 weeks when midwife normally will say keep eye on kicks or moves. Some day by baby was really active and some days she use to have lazy days and move less in day and more at night time. As far you get 10 kicks shouldn’t be worried about it. I know it is hard and make you worried time to time

I think the advice now is to not count kicks at all but learn what is normal for your baby. I think all babies are different which is why they say don't count kicks anymore. If you notice a change from your babies normal then you should get it checked. This is at least what the midwives in my area keep saying.

This is my first pregnancy. I’m 27 weeks & 4 days. I only started feeling the odd kick at 24 weeks. My baby still has no routine. Some days he’s busy, some days quiet. My baby doesn’t like it when he hears other people around me, so he goes very quiet. Every pregnancy is different. You’ll feel bigger kicks as time passes & baby grows. Sometimes when I’m busy & running around at the office, he’ll kick a lot. During the weekend he is super quiet. I had a scan 2 days ago & he is perfectly healthy, despite his odd kicking routine. Baby is constantly developing & his routine may change. Good luck with baby xx
