Do maternity belts help with lower back pain? I am 11 weeks pregnant and my lower back pain is killing me.

There are times I literally can't walk and I feel paralyzed. I have been referred to the obstetric physiotherapist as 'urgent', but they are taking a while to get back to me. My GP told me that it is not worth to go the Emergency because they won't be able to help me and that I really have to wait to be called. Did anyone go through something similar? Thank you

Sorry to hear you’re in pain. When pregnant I was in agony with extreme back pain. I had physio which didn’t help, however they did use tape on my back to pull my lower back muscles together which gave mild relief in the early days. I did use a stomach belt, but I felt this offered more support to the stomach area rather than my back. Unfortunately I had to grin and bare it when it got bad, hope you find something that works for you!

Thank you for sharing this. Did your pain stop at any point?

It came and went in bouts, was so severe at one point it felt like labour pains. It seemed to get worse if I walked a lot. Try to put your feet up as much as possible, hopefully yours eases off!

Thank you. Mine seems to get worse if I am seated which is most of the time. Walking does not make it worse.

Hello, sorry to hear you are suffering. I had spine injury before pregnancy and around week 14 struggled to walk. Instead of physio (it rarely helps) it's worth doing stretching every day. Also if get yourself a large ball and use it for sitting it helps the posture and strengthens the core muscles (not too much as otherwise muscles get too tired and it has the opposite effect). Pregnancy belt is good too but same rule as ball. Use when moving as otherwise body gets used to it. Worth booking massages and have soft tissue work done and keeping painful places warm. I'm now 24 weeks and it is much better. Not ideal but no longer in pain that stops me from living more normal life. Hope you will feel better soon as pain is awful to deal with ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been having chiropractor sessions for years once a month, and when I suffered at the beginning he changed how he treated me and img the difference, even helped with acid reflux/heartburn.
