NIPT but not disclosing donor egg

Has anyone had the NIPT and not disclosed you’d used a donor egg*? My combined NHS test came back at high risk (1 in 10 for Downs) but after speaking to a private centre anonymously about donor, they readjusted the number - and my score was something like 1/190. I was offered the NIPT by my midwife. The private centre told me the NIPT would give me a good idea, even without disclosing the donor. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks.

Hi, I don’t think you’d need to disclose it as the NIPT tests for the free dna from the placenta in your blood. The placenta is made from the embryo’s dna so it is the closest you can get to testing the baby itself for dna abnormalities (although not quite) and it is different and separate from yours. So I think practically whether the embryo is from your own egg or not, it wouldn’t change the validity of the NIPT.

I had an NIPT with both my pregnancies that made it past 10 weeks, although i only had spontaneous pregnancies so no direct experience of using donor eggs. I did research NIPTs extensively however, I wanted to make sure I understood how they work and how valid they are.

It’s a great peace of mind and much more accurate than the combined test. I also love that I know the gender of my baby from 11 weeks, it helps me with bonding and thinking of them as a real person already.

Good luck! Xx

Thank you, this is helpful to know. I was told they use your age to calculate the score and with it being a donor egg my age would be incorrect. But if as you say it’s about the free DNA then that would tell me what I needed to know. Thanks again.

The age is definitely used in the combined test but not for the NIPT. I hope you get good results and relax and enjoy your pregnancy! X

Could you go back to the NHS and tell them it's a donor egg and get the stats revised? I'm sure they are used to donor IVF cycles. You might decide you don't need an NIPT then. I've just had my NIPT and the forms ask if it's donor eggs or not so you'll need to put it on there too. x

With NIPT it’s much more accurate but it’s still based on probability so not disclosing the donor egg may make the results inaccurate. I used a donor egg and had the NIPT.

Just to close this off - I did the NIPT and received my results yesterday - very low risk.

The relief!

Hi AnyaH, I am in the same boat. I don’t want to disclose it. I just wanted to see if you disclosed it or got your results without disclosing it. I didn’t and the test came back inconclusive -mother fetal dna not matching. So Stressed!
